SF Giants Rumors – All Starts With The Ace

Posted on August 31st, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  TimmyOrange

The San Francisco Giants need to find a way to start winning some ball games. They should be picking up games right now while the San Diego Padres are on a 5 game losing streak. The Giants are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

Ace Tim Lincecum is in a tailspin in the month of August. He’s had 5 starts and is 0-5 with a 7.82 ERA. We all knew going into this year that our pitching was going to be our strong point, and this 2nd half has been the complete opposite. We need these guys to try to step it up for the remainder of the season for the Giants to have a shot at the playoffs.

Chris Haft the Giants beat writer tells me (via email) that he thinks the team still definitely has a shot!

Posted on August 25th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  Brandon Belt

It’s been reported that the Houston Astros have claimed Matt Downs from the San Francisco Giants. The Giants DFA Downs to make room for Cody Ross, who they claimed on waivers from the Florida Marlins.

Brandon Belt has been promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies. Belt started the season in San Jose and then went to Richmond. His combined stats are .363 AVG with 19 HR’s and 102 RBI’s. Let’s hope he can keep the hot bat going in Fresno.

Since Pat (The Bat) Burrell has joined the San Francisco Giants. He’s done nothing but show he’s a professional hitter. Burrell was the first of six player added to the team since the season began. Below are his stats, and I would love to hear your thoughts on if the Giants should or shouldn’t bring him back next year?

SF Giants Rumors – Ross, Hawpe and Willis

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  D-Train_SF

The San Francisco Giants have DFA (Designated For Assignment) Matt Downs to make room for Cody Ross. Ross may get a lot of his AB’s by playing center against left-handed pitching.

On Friday a rumor started swirling that the Giants were interested in Brad Hawpe. I really don’t see anything happening with that rumors since the Giants have since acquired Ross. The Giants are already rolling 6 outfielders deep, so a wild guess is they won’t add a 7th.

Update

Dontrelle Willis has been promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies (Giants AAA team). He will be pitching out of the bullpen. It’s likely he will be called up when the rosters expand to 40 players on September 1st.

SF Giants Rumors – Interested In Ross, Or Blocking?

Posted on August 20th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  Cody Ross

It’s been reported by FoxSports.com that the San Francisco Giants have claimed outfielder Cody Ross off waivers from the Florida Marlins. It’s not clear if the Giants have real interest in Ross, or if they are just trying to block the San Diego Padres or other teams. Since the claim is made that means the Giants might be on the hook for a little more than $1 million, which is the remainder of his contract for the year. I like the fact that Brian Sabean is trying to block teams. It’s showing that he’s still trying to do his job, and not just sitting back and hoping this team wins.

Cody Ross Stats

G 117

AVG .260

HR 10

RBI 55

R 57

SB 9

Ross is arbitration eligible at the end of the season.

Former Giants Outfielder Dave Roberts Update

Posted on August 19th, 2010 by admin in King of Cali Blog

  Dave Roberts SFGiantsBaseball.net

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times says former San Francisco Giants outfielder Dave Roberts expects full recovery from cancer.

Roberts played with the Giants in 2007 and 2008. He played a total of 166 games in a Giants uniform.

Roberts Stats as a Giant 07-08

Games – 166

AB – 503

Hits – 127

AVG – .252

HR – 2

RBI’s – 32

Runs – 79

SB – 36

CS – 8

SO – 84

It’s nice to hear that the speedster is going to make a full recovery. Roberts may not have had the numbers/games played that Giants fans thought he would, but he did always play the game hard!

SF Giants Rumors – Ray To DL, Affeldt Back, Random Stats

Posted on August 18th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

SFGiantsBaseball.net

SFGiantsBaseball.net

The San Francisco Giants have placed reliever Chris Ray on the DL, and Jeremy Affeldt has been reinstated from the DL. Let’s hope Affeldt can step up and help solidify this bullpen.

The Giants starters have not got a win in the last 13 starts, so let’s hope Matt (Shotgun Cain) Cain can change that tonight. We really need to have our starters pitch like we know they can to have a chance at this Division or Wild Card.

Random Stats

Pat Burrell is tied for 2nd in RBI’s for the month of August with 15.

Buster Posey has the 3rd highest AVG (.340) in the Majors since May 29th.

SF Giants Rumors – Burriss In, Wellemeyer Out, Sabean 3rd Base Blocking?

Posted on August 17th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

  Emmanuel Burriss

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says multiple teams are interested in an elite amateur pitcher, Mexican 16-year-old right-hander Luis Heredia. The San Francisco Giants are among the teams that are interested, but the Pirates are a strong favorite to land him.

The Giants twitter account says the Giants have recalled Emmanuel Burriss from Triple-A and Todd Wellemeyer has been designated for assignment.

ESPN’s Buster Olney tweets there is a perception among some GM’s that the Giants are trying to prevent third basemen from reaching the Cardinals or (more). He’s basically saying the Giants are putting claims on guys on waivers so they can’t be claimed by other teams like the Cardinals, Braves, Padres etc. Now that’s what I call helping yourself without making a trade.

SF Giants Rumors – Giants Ink First Round Pick

Posted on August 16th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Gary_Brown
Kendall Rogers of Yahoo Sports tells us (via twitter) the San Francisco Giants have signed their first round draft pick Gary Brown (about 1.3 million). The speedy outfielder was the 24th overall pick and is out of Cal State Fullerton. Let’s hope this speedster can be a spark plug like Andres Torres has been this year.
