Thoughts On Buster Posey Call Up & Pat Burrell Signing

It seems like everything has changed since my last post. There has been some highs and some lows. The Giants swept the Arizona Diamondbacks, Posey has been called up, Giants have signed Burrell, and now the Giants are trying to salvage a game against the Colorado Rockies.
Buster Posey finally is getting his chance to show Giants fans what he can do in San Francisco. Posey was hitting .349 (AVG) with 6 homers and 32 RBI’s in Triple-A Fresno. Which had fans leaving comments on blogs, calling radio shows (KNBR) and sending emails in outrage. Knowing that the Giants were struggling so bad offensively and having Posey tearing it up in Fresno. Maybe Brian Sabean finally felt the pressure and decided to bring Posey up. In 4 games for the San Francisco Giants Posey is currently 7-for-16 (.438 AVG) with 4 RBI’s.
I have heard a lot of mixed reactions to the Pat Burrell signing. He’s from the Bay Area, so it’s nice to see a local guy play for a local team. It’s not a bad signing like some fans are saying it is. He’s pretty much coming over for nothing. He’s not going to be put in left field as the everyday starter. He’s going to give us that right handed power coming off the bench. He will get some starts here and there just like any other guy on the team. If he’s hitting well then he gets more playing time. If he’s not then he’s just going to be that right handed stick with power that gets put in the game with runners on base. His job at that point will just be to try to drive in runs off the bench.
Burrell has currently played in 3 games for the Fresno Grizzlies. He’s 5-for-12 (.417 AVG) with 1 homer and 4 RBI’s. The good thing about this signing is “Pat the Bat” is going to try to prove himself. He’s basically trying to show teams that he’s not done and he’s still a force to be reckoned with. I like the signing for those reasons.

I like the call up of Posey he is going to a future star and he has unlimited potential. The signing of Burrell is a no risk high reward for his offense and everybody knows we need offense. The west is looking like it will be a 4 team race so if the giants want to take 1st place they are going to have to make a major trade with a good proven hitter to get us over the top.

Posey is going to be the man for the Giants. He’s a pure hitter and he will hit for average. He will not be a 40+ homer guy, but he should be in the 20-30 range. I said the same thing about Pat Burrell being a low risk high reward. He can’t hurt us. Just might help with some extra pop off the bench. This NL West race will be a tight one!
