Wow! If you missed last nights Wild Card game between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets, you missed a pitchers duel! Noah Syndergaard was lights out and just mowing down Giants hitters all night long. Syndergaard had the Giants hit-less through 5 2/3 innings. That’s when outfielder Denard Span broke the no-hitter with a single in the 6th.
Syndergaard went 7 innings strong, only allowing 2 hits, 10 strikeouts and allowing 0 runs. Unfortunately for Mets fans, manager Terry Collins decided Syndergaard was done for the night.
In the 9th, closer Jeurys Familia came in the game and the Giants were able to get a couple guys on base for infielder Conor Gillaspie. After a 0-1 count, Gillaspie launched a 3-run homer over the right field wall to give the G-men a 3-0 lead in the 9th.
Manager Bruce Bochy decided to stay with his starter-reliever-closer, Madison Bumgarner in the bottom of the 9th. Bumgarner slammed the door shut on the Mets and their 2016 MLB Playoff run. Bumgarner went 9 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts and 0 runs!
Giants now head to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs in the NL Division Series. Game 1 is Friday at 6:15pm (Pacific Time). It’s a best of 5-game series.
