SF Giants Rumors: Sweep LA, Roster Moves, Real Pence, Mays Birthday, Etc.

Posted on May 6th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

HunterPenceRFThe hated Dodgers came to town this weekend, and looked to end the Giants winning streak. However, they weren’t able to leave San Francisco with any wins. The San Francisco Giants swept them right out of town, and are in the midst of a six game winning streak! They’ve also already swept a series from every team in the NL West!

Roster Moves

Prior to the start of the Dodgers series; the Giants sent pitcher Sandy Rosario and catcher Hector Sanchez to the minors. They called up outfielder Francisco Peguero and activated reliever Jeremy Affeldt from the DL.

Will The Real Pence, Please Stand Up

Funky Hunter Pence is going to face his former team (Phillies) tonight, and I’m sure that’s going to give him some added motivation. During the Giants six game winning streak, Pence has hit .320 with a homer and 6 RBI. Giants’ fans are seeing the real Pence, and not the struggling one after the trade last year.

Happy Birthday

“The Say Hey Kid”, Willie Mays turns 82 today. Happy Birthday to the living legend!

NL West Standings

Giants:     19-12

Rockies:   18-13

D-Backs:   16-16

Padres:      13-18

SF Giants Rumors: Another Comeback, Lincecum Day Win, That’s What’s Up, Awkward Belt

Posted on May 2nd, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Another game, another magical comeback for the San Francisco Giants! This time it was a 3-run homer by Brandon Belt in the top of the 8th inning to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. They then tacked on 2 more runs in the 9th, and Sergio Romo secured the victory by picking up his 11th save of the season.

Lincecum Day = Win

The Freak, Tim Lincecum didn’t do much to deflate his lifetime numbers at Chase Field. He allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings pitched. However, the Giants still did manage to win another Lincecum start. They’re 5-1 in his six starts.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com says (via Twitter) last year the Giants didn’t get the 5th win on Timmy’s day till July 14th.

That’s What’s Up

Another game in Arizona means another Save for Romo. He made 3 appearances in the series, and collected 3 saves. He now has 11 saves on the year. Romo closed out April with 10 saves, and Baggarly said (via Twitter) that has Romo ranked second most in club history before May 1. The late Rod Beck saved 11 in 1997.

Awkward Belt Delivers

Belt was off to a really slow start, but has seemed to catch fire as of late. On April 21st, Belt was hitting .183 and looked lost at the plate. As a result, he was dropped to the 8th spot in the lineup, which is where he’s still hitting at now. However, he’s also stepped up at the plate and has raised his average to .239. He’s still got a ways to go, but he’s definitely headed in the right direction! In Belt’s last 21 AB’s; he’s hitting .286 with 2 homers and 6 RBI.

SF Giants Rumors: Recap, Great Pandino, Funny Game And Pending Sweep

Posted on May 1st, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles - SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors

If you missed last night’s game, let me give you the quick breakdown. I’ll fast forward to the top of the 9th inning. The San Francisco Giants were down 1-0 when Angel Pagan got a hit to knock out Trevor Cahill. The D-Backs went to their closer (possibly ex-closer now) J.J. Putz, who was able to strike out Marco Scutaro. However, he couldn’t do the same to Pablo Sandoval. The Great Pandino hit one that probably hasn’t landed yet to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. Sergio Romo hurried through his warm-ups and came in to close the door in the bottom of the 9th for his 10th save of the year.

The Great Pandino

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com says (via Twitter) Sandoval told Hunter Pence on his way to the plate that he was “gonna click one.” So he called his shot? “Pretty much,” said Pence. That’s another reason why SF Giants Rumors is calling him “The Great Pandino”!

It’s A Funny Game

Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News (via Twitter) points out that Madison Bumgarner threw 102 pitches and got a no-decision. Meanwhile, Sandy Rosario threw three pitches and gets the win (first career win)!

Pending Sweep

The Giants look to sweep the D-Backs tonight with Tim Lincecum on the mound. It’s not going to be an easy task for Lincecum. His career record is 7-8 against the D-Backs with a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts. He’s also 3-3 at Chase Field with a 4.56 ERA, and if you want me to throw salt on the wound. Lincecum has lost his last six consecutive starts against the D-Backs (dating back to 9-29-10), and has a 6.75 ERA during his losing streak to the D-Backs. Let’s not forget those are just numbers on paper. All that can change tonight with a strong outing by Lincecum.

SF Giants Rumors: Losing Streak Ends, Belt Show, Bochy Frustration, Great Pandino, Etc.

Posted on April 30th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Belt_Giants_FutureWaking up this morning felt a little different. The sun was out, the birds were chirping, and reminiscing about the San Francisco Giants snapping their five game skid. All seems right in Giantsland now.

The Belt Show

Brandon Belt hit a solo homer in the 2nd inning to put the Giants up 3-0, but that lead didn’t last long as the D-Backs put up 4 runs in the 4th inning. The Giants would tie the game in the 5th inning, and Belt would put them ahead for good with a clutch hit to score 2 runs in the top of the 8th. Closer Sergio Romo slammed the door shut in the 9th to pick up his 9th save of the season.

Built Up Frustration, Finally Released

During this wild game, manager Bruce Bochy had to do something to light a fire under his team, and he did so by getting tossed from the game in the 5th inning.

The Great Pandino (Bambino nickname was already taken)

Pablo Sandoval added another 2 hits to his baseball card, but also took an early exit from the game due to injury. It appears that his bone chips were flaring up in his elbow, but the DL isn’t likely in his near future. Sandoval does want to play today, but it’s not clear if he will, or if Bochy will go with Nick Noonan to defend the hot corner.

Party Time

Is it too early to throw a welcome back party for Marco Scutaro? He’s showing signs of the Marco of old. Scutaro went 3-for-4 and scored 2-runs for the Giants. A hot Scutaro means the tables should be set for the meat of this Giants order.

Roster Update

Yesterday, Jose Mijares was placed on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List, and Sandy Rosario was called up from Triple-A-Fresno to take his spot on the roster.

SF Giants Rumors: Cain Looking To End A Couple Streaks, And Stay Hot Pablo

Posted on April 29th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles - SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors

Let’s be glad it’s still early on in the season, because the San Francisco Giants are on a five game losing streak (longest current losing streak in MLB)! They just got swept out of Petco Park by the Padres, and now start a new series tonight in Arizona. The D-Backs are also sending Ian Kennedy to the mound, and he hasn’t lost to the Giants in nine straight starts. Let’s hope tonight is the night that Kennedy’s win streak ends over the Giants, and most importantly the Giants stop this five game skid!

The good news is the Giants are only two games out in the NL West, and there are still months of baseball left. It’s not the worst thing in the world to see these guys struggle early on, and fight to get back on track. That should only make them stronger down the stretch.

Matt Cain is 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA, and still grinding for his first win of the 2013 season. The Giants have lost all five of Cain’s starts this year. He’s 8-4 in 16 career starts in Arizona, which means this could be what the doctor ordered to get Cain in the win column for 2013.

Infielder Pablo Sandoval put together 4 hits yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to steal a game from the Padres. Sandoval is currently hitting .316 with 3 homers and 19 RBI. He’s hitting .379 in the last 7 days. If you want to look deeper into his numbers, he’s hitting .346 with 5 homers and 25 RBI at Chase Field in 35 career games.

SF Giants Rumors: Crawford Is Hot, Scutaro Is Not, Etc.

Posted on April 25th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors

Yesterday the San Francisco Giants were trailing again in the bottom of the 9th inning, and once again pulled off a magical comeback. This time it was a solo homer by Brandon Crawford to tie the game at 2-2. However, the ending wasn’t what Giants fans were hoping for. They ended up losing in extra innings to lose the series to the D-Backs.

Crawford put together a three hit game, and is off to a hot start in April for the G-men. He’s currently hitting .320 with 4 homers, 10 RBI and scored 15 runs. Let’s not forget his great defense that he brings to the table as well.

Infielder Marco Scutaro was so hot for the Giants last year that we all knew he would have to come back down to earth someday. I just don’t think anyone thought he would come crashing down so hard and fast!

Scutaro is hitting .225 thus far, which could be worse. The alarming thing is he’s hitting .125 in the last seven days, so there’s no sign of him breaking out of his April slump. I still believe Scutaro is a great number two hitter. This guy can shoot a ball to the right side to move a runner. However, Scutaro seems to be popping up and flying out a lot more than usual. Last year he was spraying line drives and hitting the ball through the holes for hits. Scutaro is a professional hitter, and I believe he will find his stroke soon!

Probables In San Diego

Tim Lincecum (2-0, 3.97) vs. Andrew Cashner (0-1, 4.05)

Barry Zito (3-1, 3.42) vs. Eric Stults (2-2, 4.70)

Ryan Vogelsong (1-1, 5.68) vs. Jason Marquis (1-2, 4.63)

SF Giants Rumors: Giants Fall Short, Bumgarner Looks to Secure Series Win and Today’s Lineup

Posted on April 24th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

GiantsBumgarnerLast night was another great come from behind game for the San Francisco Giants. Brandon Belt hit a 2-run homer in the ninth to tie the game. However, the Giants fell short in extra innings. This does show that the Giants don’t give up, and always fight to get back in ball games. Last night’s loss can be forgotten today with a win. That would mean that the Giants win the series against the Diamondbacks.

Arizona is sending Ian Kennedy to the mound. He’s 1-2 with a 5.47 ERA on the year. The Giants will counter with Madison Bumgarner, who’s looking for his 4th win of the season. He’s 3-0 on the year with a 2.05 ERA.

Starting Lineup

CF Angel Pagan

2B Marco Scutaro

3B Pablo Sandoval

RF Hunter Pence

1B Brandon Belt

LF Gregor Blanco

C Guillermo Quiroz

P Madison Bumgarner

SF Giants Rumors: Giants Heating Up, Posey And Sandoval Rake At AT&T Park

Posted on April 23rd, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles - SF Giants Rumors

Credit: Steven Robles – SF Giants Rumors

It hasn’t taken the San Francisco Giants long to get back in their winning ways. After being swept in Milwaukee, the Giants came home to sweep the Padres. Last night the Diamondbacks came to town, and the Giants started that series off the way they ended the Padres series, with a win!

Who said AT&T Park isn’t a hitters park? Don’t tell that to Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval. Posey is currently hitting .344 at home this year with 2 homers and 10 RBI. Sandoval is hitting .364 with 2 homers and 8 RBI.

The Giants are sending Matt Cain to the mound, and he’s still fighting for his first win of the season. However, the Giants really want the win to secure the series victory over the D-backs. Cain is currently 0-2 with a 7.15 ERA.
