It was just two years ago that the San Francisco Giants were crowned World Series Champions, and had a Rookie Of The Year catcher named Buster Posey.
Last year the Giants fell short of making the playoffs. Posey was injured May 25th 2011 with a horrific collision at the plate with Scott Cousins. That derailed the Giants chances of back-to-back championships.
This year it’s a different story. Posey is back and healthy. He’s having a career year, and is a favorite to possibly win the NL MVP award and is a shoe in to win the NL Batting Title as well. That also smells like a Comeback Player of the Year?
Posey is currently hitting .336 with 2 games to go, and Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates is behind him with a .329 average. The last seven days has made a big difference in this batting title race. Posey has hit .429 during this span, while McCutchen has hit .167.
This season started with a lot of questions that would only be answered in time. Would Posey be the same player he was in 2010, will he be able to catch a full season, can he lead the Giants back to the playoffs?
Posey has answered all of these questions while putting together an MVP caliber type year, and leading the Giants march to the 2012 playoffs. With the playoffs yet to begin, I have a feeling that this storybook season for Posey isn’t finished just yet…
With 2 games left to be played in the 2012 season. Posey is currently hitting .336 with 23 homers and 101 RBI. Did I forget to mention he was also the NL All Star starting catcher?
