SF Giants Rumors: Address Lincecum Woes, Search For A Starting Pitcher Begins

Posted on July 5th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors
Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com says the San Francisco Giants must address Tim Lincecum‘s woes. Morosi is not even talking about trading Lincecum in this post. It’s just addressing the fact that the Giants can’t count on him.

Morosi says the Giants are talented enough to win the division without Lincecum, and with the non-waiver trade deadline coming up, it’s time for GM Brian Sabean to scour the market for a starting pitcher.

Morosi also points out that Lincecum and Barry Zito account for more than $37 million in salary this year, so it won’t be feasible to trade them. However, he does believe the Giants need to add another starting pitcher before they’re just left with three trustworthy starters.

He’s not talking about big name pitchers that cost a boat load of money and prospects, like Zack Greinke, Cole Hamels or Matt Garza. He’s suggesting pitchers like Milwaukee’s Marco Estrada, Seattle’s Jason Vargas or San Diego’s Clayton Richard.

Don’t forget to go to the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page to share your thoughts on Lincecum, and the Giants looking into starting pitchers prior to the trade deadline.

  1. I agree that it’s time to give someone else an opportunity as the 5th starter. Using Brad Penny to start games knowing you probable will only get 4 or 5 innings is better than what Tim is giving the club. On another note, I just watched a three game series with the Nationals an question the Giants will to win. It appeared they though they were going to come into Washington and leave with 2 or 3 wins. The Nat’s ripped all their starters. Cain gave the best showing by going 6 1/3 innings before wavering the heat. Cain was winning with a 5 to 3 lead when he left. The G men then found a way to lose the game. Mostly by playing sloppy baseball.
