Yes, it’s true! San Francisco Giants All Star outfielder Melky Cabrera has been suspended for 50 games. Cabrera tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (testosterone).

If the Giants make the playoffs, Cabrera will be eligible to come back in the 6th game of the playoffs. However, if the Giants make it that far without him. There is no guarantee that they will want to even active him and use him.

It’s still up in the air if the Giants will look to re-sign Cabrera or just cut ties and move on. He’s played 113 games for the Giants and hit .346. His bat will sure be missed, and only time will tell if they try to re-sign him or let him walk.

Don’t forget to go to the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page to share your thoughts on Cabrera getting a 50 game suspension.

I’d like to hear Cabrera’s side. Even if it’s an admission, maybe he could advise other players of the temptations and the dangers.

  • Eric says:

Cut your losses now.. Move on and cut him!

  • Don Evans says:

I’m with David. I would like to know why he felt he needed to take any performance enhancing drugs. I think I would try to resign him, but on a short term deal. I also would not spend the bank on him now. I would let him know he needs to stay clean.

  • Anthony R says:

Don, he felt the need because he was a 260 career hitter. Then 308 with the Royals last year and now 346 before being caught.

I wouldn’t even think of resigning him because he would have signed a huge deal earlier in the year while knowingly taking the illegal substance and in essence sticking it to the Giants.

    No character; no deal!

  • Paul Moore says:

Make me wonder. Since he knew he was on the juice, why did he not sign the 27 or so mill he was offered. Would that been money in the bank and a committment or could the Giants have gotton out of the conract on the morals clause.
