SF Giants Rumors: Buster Posey Arbitration Eligible, Giants Closing In On Japanese Infielder Kensuke Tanaka

Posted on January 9th, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Posey - ESPN MagazineHenry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says (via Twitter) there’s been no contract discussions between the San Francisco Giants and Buster Posey‘s agent.

Posey is entering his first of four years of arbitration. Which means he’s under the Giants control till the end of the 2016 season. He’s going to start getting paid now that he’s entering arbitration. I would say winning Rookie of the Year, and the MVP would be a good reason to get a nice pay increase!

John Shea  of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) hears that the Giants are closing in on signing second baseman Kensuke Tanaka to a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite. Tanaka hit .300 for Nippon Ham Fighters.

Obviously, he’s not coming in to compete with Marco Scutaro for the second base job, but the Giants could use him in a utility role. He would be in competition with Joaquin Arias.

  1. buster is worth whatever the numbers end up at.

  2. Super smart by Sabes to ink Tanaka.280-300 hitter in Japan? He’ll have better “pop” at the plate than Arias..but I like em both.

  3. GET BUSTER UNDER LONG TERM CONTRACT. He is the type of player you want to spend his whole career with your team.

  4. I believe the Giants and Buster will look to complete a long-term deal. Buster has already had a bad injury that could have easily taken the game away from him. I don’t think he’s going to be willing to go year-to-year when he can have a long-term deal in the bag. He might have to give a bit of a discount, but if it sets his family up for life… I’m sure he’s good with that!
