SF Giants Rumors: Chase Headley and Hunter Pence Make Sense, Minus Two Bullpen Arms Off The List
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says there is a strong probability that Padres third baseman Chase Headley will be dealt.
The San Francisco Giants are in the market for a third baseman and switch hitting, 28-year-old Headley would make perfect sense. It’s just not likely that the Padres would deal him within the division.
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com says the Phillies are letting clubs know they’re eager to move outfielder Hunter Pence.
Pence plays outfield and the Giants are looking for a corner outfielder with some pop. Pence will likely earn $13-to-$14 million next year (final year of arbitration). Pence is 29 years-old and currently hitting .268 with 17 homers and 57 RBI.
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com says (via twitter) the Giants are still looking for bullpen help. They did have interest in Francisco Rodriguez, until they seen him pitch the other day. He also says they don’t see Jonathan Broxton as the answer to their bullpen.

I’m all about time and patience with someone. But when does Bochy/Mgmt do something with Belt? Honestly, I would rather see Cain pitch hit for him right now!
i like hunter pence for us and would prefer the indians reliever if he’s still on the board. by the way, it should read “until they saw hum pitch…”, not seen.
I like Pence but not sure about Headley.
I agree that it’s highly unlikely for a team like the Padres to trade within their division.
I do, however, like the Pence suggestion and I’m still at a lost as to why the Giants didn’t go out and try to trade for him last season. Perhaps the Astros were asking for both Gary Brown and Zack Wheeler. In any event, if Sabes and the front office can get Pence over to the Bay Area before the trade deadline this season the Giants offense will be vastly improved. This will surely counter the trade the Dodgers made for Hanley Ramirez. The question then is who do the Giants trade? I’ve heard of Tommy Joseph or Andrew Susac. That sounds good since our catching depth is strong. I would add another prospect and ship Nate or Pagan to Philly.
Not good guys. Pence made a splash debut here in Houston and made a name for himself because, if ya’ll remember correctly, the Astros sucked (still do). Can he smoke a ball over the fence every once in a while? Yes. Can he run like crazy. Sure, when he wants to. But he’s still just a kid and hasn’t learned to be a teammate yet. The reason why the Astros and now the Phillies want to dump him is that he’s got an attitude problem and he’s a PrimaDonna with very little to show for it. He’s a mediocre player at best when he tries his best (when). I watched him close here in Houston. The last thing we need is another 10-15 mil going out the door for another Zito or Belt. He won’t help that much, and then we’re stuck with him. Mark my words guys… Not a good idea.
IBobby Evans ought to relieve Brian Sabean. Then, things might start to go swimmingly.
