SF Giants Rumors: Coco Crisp, Center Field The Main Focus?

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says Coco Crisp is a good fit for the San Francisco Giants. He was tied for the league lead in stolen bases and plays center field. The Giants need a leadoff hitter, and need a center fielder. Sounds like it could possibly be a good match.

“Covelli has made it clear that he would like to play for a team that is determined to compete, and he’d also like to stay on the West Coast,” says Steve Comte (Coco’s agent). Covelli is Coco’s real name. You didn’t think Coco was his real first name, did you?

Center Field A Focus

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com said (via twitter) it sounds like the Giants are more likely to spend their few available dollars on a center fielder, rather than a shortstop like Jose Reyes or Jimmy Rollins.

Are you on board for Crisp, or do you want the Giants to take a chance on Grady Sizemore?

  • Steverino says:

I’m actually onboard for CC over G Sizemore. GS may or may not rebound to his performance of pre 2011, and if he doesn’t we’ll be stuck with another season of Bochy playing a “quality veteran” who is not producing. CC will produce, except when he is (often) injured, but that will provide some needed reason for Bochy to play some of the bench players and/or temp AAA callup.

Playing non starters is an important part of investing in a team’s future and Bochy just doesn’t do it.

Crisp all the way over Sizemore.

Coco isn’t his real name? Awe….!

Coco Pebbles; Coco Puffs; Coco BeWare ;)

  • DoEller says:

We need a lead-off hitter big time and Crisp looks like a fit especially at his price. I say give Crawford a shot at short, sign Beltran and hope everyone stays healthy for a change!

  • Jim S. says:

I would rather take a shot at Sizemore. Both are injury risks, both can hit leadoff, but the upside is all star caliber for Sizemore, and Coco doesn’t get on base at a high enough clip even when he is healthy.
