SF Giants Rumors: Final Series, Rotation and Pence

Tonight starts the San Francisco Giants final series of the 2012 regular season. The good thing is it’s against the rival Dodgers (should make these games exciting) in Los Angeles, and the even better thing is the Giants can officially knock the Dodgers out of the Wild Card race with a win tonight!

Tim Lincecum has come off back-to-back shaky outings, but says he’s been told that he’s in the Giants playoff starting rotation. It still isn’t clear which game he will start, but most of the media (including myself) speculates that Lincecum will be the 3rd starter, behind Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner (Barry Zito likely #4).

Outfielder Hunter Pence is in the midst of a hot streak, and looks to keep it going against the Dodgers tonight, and more importantly, into the playoffs! Pence has 3 homers and 8 RBI in his last 4 games. His average hasn’t been anything spectacular since putting on the orange and black, but he’s a RBI machine! Pence has 45 RBI in his 56 games as a Giant!

I understand that Lincecum has been the Giants ace for the past few years, but he hasn’t pitched like one so far, and hasn’t justified being put in the rotation of the playoffs ahead of Vogelsong and Zito. I think his numbers after the All-Star break don’t tell a bigger story: the victories came against poor hitting or weaker teams sans the Padres.

I think Bochy will have a short leash with him, and install either Zito or Vogelsong as the long reliever if Lincecum falters.

I hope Pence gets hot, and his average goes up as we go through the playoffs. If the opposition decides to walk Posey, there better be a Giants player to protect him and make the other team regret walking Posey.

Timmy’s a winner and will come through in the clutch

I won’t worry about the starters or anything else if Bochy will please leave Huff and Burris at home when they go to the playoffs. Burris can’t hit, field, or run without making game killing mistakes and screw-ups. Take Christian, Peguero, Pill, or anybody besides those two.
