The NL West leading (4.5 games) San Francisco Giants came home yesterday after going 5-1 on the road in Houston and Chicago.
Yesterdays game seemed like it was going to be a frustrating let down as the Giants blew a 4-0 lead to be down 7-4. However, they kept chipping away and managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then won it in the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off hit from Marco Scutaro (3-for-6 on the day)!
If you haven’t noticed, outfielder Hunter Pence is starting to catch some fire. He’s currently in the midst of a 8 game hitting streak. Pence has slowly started to raise his average in a Giants uniform. He’s now hitting .234 in the Orange and Black. It’s not a high average, but he’s still driving in runs (24 RBI in 32 games).
Relief pitcher Jean Machi made his Major League debut yesterday, and pitched a scoreless ninth inning with just throwing 11 pitches.
Outfielder Xavier Nady is switching his uniform number from 68 to number 12. Nady had a rough game yesterday (0-for4 with 2 K’s) at the plate, but he’s hitting .333 (3-for-9) in his 3 games in a Giants uniform. Nady grew up in Salinas California and played college baseball at Cal. Is anyone thinking this could be the 2nd edition of the Pat Burrell story in 2010?
