We’re getting closer to the trade deadline, and teams’ weaknesses are really starting to show. Everyone knows the San Francisco Giants are in need of a starting pitcher. Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco has already been linked to the Giants by multiple writers. Word on the street is the Marlins are looking to move Nolasco sooner rather than later!

Nolasco is 4-7 on the year with a 3.68 ERA. He’s not going to be a showstopper, but he would help improve this Giants rotation.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports said (via Twitter) one rival GM who’s trying to get Nolasco himself believes Giants GM Brian Sabean will win the bidding war to acquire Nolasco.

Roster Update

Outfielder Angel Pagan is having surgery today in Los Angeles to repair his left hamstring tendon. Pagan is expected to be out 10-12 weeks. The Giants are not expected to bring up Gary Brown or Roger Kieschnick at this time.

Pitcher Chad Gaudin has been placed on the 15-day DL with an elbow contusion. Gaudin’s injury doesn’t appear to be anything serious. Mike Kickham has been called back up to take Gaudin’s start tonight in LA.

Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News says (via Twitter) Joaquin Arias has a mild hamstring strain. Manager Bruce Bochy doesn’t think it’s a DL think right now.
