SF Giants Rumors – Giants Losers?

Posted on February 5th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Jon Heyman of SI.com gives his eight teams that he says have been losers this offseason, at least for the months of November through February. The Giants are listed as the #4 team, so I guess that’s better than the worst team which happens to be the New York Mets.

Heyman says the Giants brought in a collection of hitters – Mark DeRosa, Aubrey Huff, Juan Uribe and Bengie Molina, but ignored the two true middle of the order threats that were available (Jason Bay and Matt Holliday) and badly needed.

King of Cali thoughts: I don’t think the Giants really are losers this offseason. No we didn’t get that one big bat that we have said we needed for the last two years. We did however upgrade our offense. No, it’s not the Yankees lineup. This team does have the potential to score more runs this year. We still are missing our ideal leadoff hitter, and we have no team speed. We do however have some decent hitters.

2010 Projected Lineup

1. Aaron Rowand CF
2. Freddy Sanchez 2B
3. Pablo Sandoval 3B
4. Aubrey Huff 1B
5. Mark DeRosa LF
6. Bengie Molina C
7. Nate Schierholtz RF
8. Edgar Renteria SS
9. Tim Lincecum P

Now we all know this lineup is subject to change. If Sanchez isn’t ready for opening day. The Giants will likely start Juan Uribe and 2nd base. Which means the lineup would need some shuffling.

This was the 2009 Starting Lineup.

1. Randy Winn RF
2. Edgar Renteria SS
3. Fred Lewis LF
4. Bengie Molina C
5. Pablo Sandoval 3B
6. Travis Ishikawa 1B
7. Aaron Rowand CF
8. Emmanuel Burriss 2B
9. Tim Lincecum P

Now by the looks of that. I would say we are definitely starting off this season with a better starting lineup than last year. Would you say the Giants are losers this offseason?

  1. I like john heyman but what he doesn’t understand is that guys with power like bay and holliday didn’t wanna come to sf what does he not understand just ask peter gammons who knows the real story the only power hitters like like it here are the ones who can really hit ex: puljos a rod texeria howard fielder braun only a slect few would love it here

  2. I agree. Heyman is great, but he’s not really getting into the full story of this. I don’t think it was a loser offseason. I think it would’ve been awesome to land a single big bat, but all things considered, multiple smaller pieces is not terrible.

  3. You are an idiot and Sabean is a jackass for spending millions on hitters that slightly increase (and depending on your source may decrease) the Giants ability to score runs. The starting pitching, as well as the bullpen, cannot be expected to perform at such a high level as last year.

  4. Jim I’ll tell you right now our offense will be better than last year

DeRosa is an upgrade over Lewis and everyone else we had in LF last year and having Freddy Sanchez for a full year will also be an upgrade

Huff I believe if he can get anywhere close to his 2008 numbers is an upgrade over Ishikawa

and the pitching will be good it’s not luck that it has been great the last two seasons and with all the depth added to the bullpen I see the pen improving as well

  5. 415_man is a Sabean spy.

  6. lol Jim I sure am

I meet with Sabean every thursday at Chuck E Cheese to discuss his moves

  7. Man Jim Burris, you are an idiot. Do you even do research players or do you just comment on sights like this with your ridiculous opinions. Anybody who says the offense this year is not improved is either lying to themselves or they are a dodgers fan. F. Sanchez > Burris/Velez. Derosa > Lewis. Huff > Ishi. And i don’t know why you insist that the pitching is not gonna be as good this year, you think Lince and Cain are one year wonders? You’re a moron Jim Burris, do some research or maybe just think about your comments before you post.

  8. Hey Jim you sure don’t know what your talkin about .. why waste our time with our honest opinions and your lousy 2 cent rediculious words.. how could you say we will not upgrade in run. you replace velez and get sanchez derosa over lewis huff over ishikawa molina comes back those guys worst yrs are still better then those losers best yrs please dont comment us with your non sense.. oh and one more thing your sayin we wasted millions on nobodys huh well lets see if holliday gets them to world series and if bay can even get the mets to the playoffs
