The 108th World Series started off with a bang for the San Francisco Giants. They had the tough task of facing the Tigers ace Justin Verlander, but they didn’t let the hype slow down their hot bats.
Pablo Sandoval got things started off with a solo shot off Verlander in the bottom of the 1st. Sandoval went on to hit another 2 homers in the game. Which put him in the record books along side of Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols.
Marco Scutaro continued to do what he’s been doing ever since he put on a Giants uniform, and that’s hit! Scutaro had a 2-for-4 night, and had a clutch RBI single in the 2nd inning. Scutaro is in the midst of an 11-game postseason hitting streak.
Let’s not forget about the Giants starting pitcher, Barry Zito. Zito tossed 5 2/3 innings and just allowing a single run. The G-men have won Zito’s last 14 consecutive starts. If the Giants don’t sweep the Tigers, Zito will be the game 5 starter.
I really love Tim Lincecum coming out of the pen in the World Series. He just looks focused and determined when he steps on the mound. Plus he gets a chance to get in more games and is more of a factor in the whole series. Lincecum retired all 7 Tigers hitters that he faced, and 5 of them were strikeouts!
