SF Giants Rumors: Hairston, Nakajima, Wilson, Lowe, Etc.

Posted on December 4th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Yesterday afternoon Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com (via Twitter) said the San Francisco Giants are looking at Scott Hairston as a right-handed bat to platoon with Gregor Blanco in left field.

Chris Haft of MLB.com reports (via Twitter) that an agent told him San Francisco was “bending over backwards” to sign Angel Pagan and Marco Scutaro. Two hours after this agent told Haft, the news of Pagan’s signing broke.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) was told that the Giants have spoken with the representatives for Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima as a second base option in case they can’t bring Scutaro back.

Scutaro talks are ongoing with the Giants, and there’s still optimism they will be able to get a deal done. They haven’t ruled out a three-year deal, reports Baggarly.

In another Baggarly tweet, he says manager Bruce Bochy has said Sergio Romo is the closer as of now, but he does plan on calling Brian Wilson soon to recruit him back to San Francisco.

Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com says the Giants have checked in on right-hander Mark Lowe. Lowe is 29 years old and appeared in 88 games for the Rangers over the past two season, with a 3.63 ERA and 1.240 WHIP.

  1. I’ve been wondering how the Giants were going to try to keep Blanco in the field but improve his offense. He was on a tear early in 2012, when he was in right.

  2. Great Job of Namedropping.

  3. What about the pitcher that Oakland has not signed. We could use a 5th pitcher in case Timmy goes to the pen which I would think could resolve the Wilson issue.

  4. Money kills the great idea of Timmy in the bull pen along side lefty Affelt as setups.
His small body frame is hurting him to continue as a starter. We will see ……..

  5. the Giants sigh Scutero and all is right with the world. He is the kind of player that us “old time Giant’s fans” love to talk about. I remember players like Stankey, Al Dark, Will Clark, and Robbie Thomson. I could go on but I’m sure you get the drift.

  6. Ah yes….Robbie Thompson….Loved that man….most gutsy second baseman ever.
