Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle tweeted over the weekend that the San Francisco Giants have designated Minor Leaguer Chris Heston for assignment to make room for outfielder Jeff Francoeur on the 40-man roster.

Cole Gillespie was placed on waivers by the Giants last week, and he’s since been claimed by the Cubs.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com says the Giants aren’t buying or selling right now. Tim Lincecum and Hunter Pence will be free agents after this season, so they could be available to other teams if the Giants decide to sell at the trade deadline.

Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com says multiple sources have told him that some teams are interested in acquiring Lincecum as a reliever. The Tigers are one team that Morosi mentions that’s interested in Lincecum. I’m sure Lincecum has piqued more team’s interest by throwing a no hitter Saturday night in San Diego. I was at that game, and will talk more about it in a future post.

In a Morosi tweet, he points out that reliever Javier Lopez is another candidate to move if the Giants decide to sell. He’s also scheduled to hit the free agent market after this season.

  1. Remember Greg Minton? He was a great closer but threw junk.

Timmy’s got better stuff and still can hurl the fastball 90 mph.

You put him in the closer position where teams just can’t sit and wait for him to lose the strike zone.

His movement is off the charts and they call him the Freak cause he doesn’t need much warm up time; plus he can give you multiple days no problem; especially if he’s throwing 1 or 2 innings.

The Giants need to hold onto him; trade Romo plus a couple minor leagers for a starter like Cliff Lee; put Timmy in the closer position and we’re set.

  2. Fully Agree….Timmy would be the ideal closer.
I like Romo yet he is a bit hyper it seems, much like Wilsom…Just doesn’t seem to fit it seems to me.

  3. “piqued” Yes! You win.
