SF Giants Rumors: Hunter Pence Wants To Stay In San Francisco Long Term

Posted on January 23rd, 2013 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Pence-Giants-TogetherOutfielder Hunter Pence is looking to rebound in 2013, says John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. He’s been working with a personal trainer to help him be quicker on the field, and he wants to be looser at the plate. He’s definitely not satisfied with how he’s performed with the San Francisco Giants.

Pence hit .219 with the Giants during the regular season, and .210 in the postseason. Which can very easily be improved this year. Even with his average being down, he was still able to drive in a lot of runs for the Giants.

Pence is in his final arbitration year, and that means he will be heading into the free agent market. If Pence can find his comfort zone at the plate and have a breakout year. He will have tons of teams knocking on his door. However, Pence said he’d like to stick around long-term in San Francisco.

“If they want to talk about that, I’d definitely be willing to listen,” Pence said. “I’m not opposed to that at all. I want to be here.”

Pence is making $13.8 million this year, and that’s only because he’s in his final year of arbitration. If he doesn’t put up a monster season, you can expect his annual salary to drop next year.

“Expect to get every bit of effort I’ve got. I’m confident I can hit better than I did last year. Every year, I’m working to improve in all aspects. But the main goal isn’t to improve my average. The main goal is to find a way to win ballgames, however that is,” says Pence.

I love his passion for the game, and that his ultimate goal is winning! This is the kind of player that I would love to see turn it around this year, and possibly even stay long-term. Not many players posses his kind of energy and will to win!
