SF Giants Rumors: Kensuke Tanaka Utility Job, Conor Gillaspie Traded, Starting Rotation

CainPerfectTomorrow (Saturday) is the first Cactus League game for the San Francisco Giants. Manager Bruce Bochy will likely get the World Baseball Classic guys a lot of game time early on. He wants them to be ready to go when they part ways for the WBC. Once they’re gone a lot of young guys will get plenty of playing time to show off their skills.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com says (via Twitter) Bochy mentioned that Kensuke Tanaka is open to playing some outfield in attempt to win the utility job.

The Giants traded infielder Conor Gillaspie to the White Sox for minor league pitcher Jeff Soptic. Gillaspie was out of options and not expected to make the team. The 21 year-old Soptic will report to minor league camp, and has a reputation as a flame thrower (via Baggarly Twitter links).

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle tweets that Bochy basically announced the 2013 starting rotation. Matt Cain gets the ball in game 1, followed by Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Ryan Vogelsong.
The number four starter Zito will get the Giants home opener if the rotation doesn’t get altered by the start of the season.
