Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says the San Francisco Giants have discussed starting pitchers Ricky Nolasco, Matt Garza, Bud Norris internally and probably a few others as well. Nolasco, Garza and Norris are Californians, so I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a trade to San Francisco.
Heyman points out that the market could be hot for these guys, so he also lists some other viable or better starters who could be available include Yovani Gallardo, Scott Feldman, Kevin Correia, Kevin Slowey, Lucas Harrell and Joe Saunders.
“We’re not going to be reactionary,” Sabean said. “We’re not going to make a deal just to make a deal.”
Schulman also says the Giants are doing their homework on potential hitters, and pitchers. Sabean’s staff has been active identifying potential trade targets in the outfield, and for starters and relievers, but no deal is close and the Giants will not pay steep June prices.
The Giants will listen to teams that are looking to dump salary without extracting big prospects. Money is not the issue for the Giants front office at this time. Which means ownership will fork out some dough if the right deal comes along.
Pitcher Chad Gaudin is expected to come off the DL for the series at AT&T Park against the Dodgers.
