In my opinion, the Giants need to lock up Lincecum right now. 7 years with a vesting option for an 8th should get it done, and about 150 mil guaranteed. We just saw the huge mistake St Louis made with their superstar, so let’s not do the same. If we give Tim a 2 year deal, his agent will still seek 7 or 8 years for him once he hits free agency two years from now. Signing him long term now will save us from possibly losing him, and also save us in the long run financially. Signing him for 7 years would be much better at his current age of 27 as opposed to age 29. Long term right now is what’s best for the Giants if they don’t want to shoot themselves in the foot!

Man, we can’t Zito ourselves again. Timmy is as big of a homer as Cain and Pablo, but 8 years?

I couldn’t care less about Bonser, but I said that last year when they picked up Vogelsong, so you never know. Give Lincecum what he wants. The above comparison to Zito is not a good one. Zito was very good in Oakland. Hey, he won a Cy Young. However, he is and never was at Timmy’s level. Zito was a one time 20 game winner who shut down the Twins in the 2006 divisional playoffs. Timmy won two Cy Youngs in his first 2 full seasons. He, if healthy, is headed to the Hall of Fame.

Love Timmy but 8 yrs for 160 million? Sounds almost like a zito mistake.

Try 5 or 6 yrs at 120 million.

If he insists on 8 yrs give him the first 5 @ 20 million then next 3 a base salary of 12 to 15 with incentives to reach 20 plus.

Whatever just lock up Timmy and keep him a Giant
