Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Giants and Tim Lincecum need to find the right multi-year deal to
satisfy both sides. Heyman says their is no sense risking a loss in arbitration if you’re Lincecum.
satisfy both sides. Heyman says their is no sense risking a loss in arbitration if you’re Lincecum.King of Cali thought: The Giants have two players that are going through the arbitration process. These players are Lincecum and Brian Wilson. Lincecum has submitted $13 million and the Giants submitted $8 million. They are $5 million apart, so I’m sure they will be able to work out a deal for around $11 million. Even if this case goes through the whole process. I still think paying Lincecum $13 million is worth it. Whatever amount he gets paid this year is going to be well deserved.
Lincecum is really in a tough spot as far as I’m concerned. Yes, he’s a great pitcher. Yes, he’s going to get a big raise every year in arbitration. The problem is what if he gets hurt and his career is over? Then he just has this one year deal worth $13 million the max. He may want to consider signing a long term deal. Yes he will get under market value, but at least he will have all that money guaranteed for however many years. Just something I would really think about if I was him. You never know when something might get tweaked, and you may never be the same.

Truer words have never been spoken. They need to work out a long term deal, it’s what’s best for both sides and the fans!
I agree with everything you wrote. He has earned and deserves his 13 million but working out a long term deal would be much better for all parties.
I think the smartest thing to do is have Tim go through arbitration for 2 years in a row and pay him the 13 mill this year and another raise next year and then sign him to a long term deal for 5 years plus ,that way they have him for 7 more years.
If the Giants don’t end up signing Timmy to some sort of long term deal then i’m gonna be very disappointed in the higher ups of the organization. Lincecum IS THE FACE of the Giants right now and there is not reason why they should not sign him to a 6 year deal worth atleast 72 million. Even that would be underpaying for his value. If Timmy every becomes a free agent then the deep pocket teams (Red Sox, Yanks) will be throwing HUGE numbers at him. Possibly recored numbers. Numbers that the Giants will have no chance at matching. Get a long term deal done ASAP
A little off topic, but do you all think Lincecum will pitch on opening day in Houston or will they leave him till their home opener against Atlanta? I’m not sure how this is normally done.
he’ll start in Houston because he is our #1 starter no matter what
The arbitration process works by ruling in favor of the 13 mill that Tim has asked for or for 8 mill the giants have submitted there is no ruling in between those numbers.I really believe that they will rule the 13 mill fiqure that Tim wants due to him winning 2 CY Young awards in a row and there is no way the Giants brass will let Tim walk and they will sign him to a long term deal but Tim isn’t a free agent for 4 more years so there isn’t anything for Giants fans to worry about.
