SF Giants Rumors – Lincecum, Giants In Multi-Year Talk
Posted on February 11th, 2010 by admin in SF Giants Rumors
John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Giants and Tim Lincecum are still in negotiations. The arbitration hearing is set for Friday in Florida.

Shea says a source told him the Giants have made a three year $37 million offer with annual salaries of $9.5 million, $12.5 million and $15 million. Team Lincecum countered with a proposal north of $40 million.
If they don’t work out a deal by Friday. The case will go to an arbitration hearing. Then it will be decided if Lincecum should be paid what Team Lincecum submitted ($13 million) or what the Giants submitted ($8 million).
SIDE NOTES
Bobby Evans said the Giants view Todd Wellemeyer as a long reliever, but he also could be available to start if there’s a need. If he makes the team, Wellemeyer would make $1 million. He would also have a chance for an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses.
King of Cali thoughts: It would be nice to see a multi-year deal worked out, but the clock is ticking. They have a hearing set for tomorrow if nothing is worked out. If the Giants can’t get this multi-year deal with Lincecum. They should just walk into the hearing tomorrow and say we will pay $13 million without a fight. That’s still nothing compared to what he would be worth as a free agent. Let’s just keep him happy, and be thankful we have him.
As for Wellemeyer being viewed as a long reliever, that’s perfect! That’s exactly how I would like to see him used. I really don’t think he can beat out Madison Bumgarner for the fifth spot in the rotation. Wellemeyer would be a decent spot starter if needed as well. Spring Training is getting closer and closer Giants fans. Let’s get this season started already!

You I watch every giants game last yr and when timmy pitched our wonderful announcers kept saying we are glad hes our guy and hes on our team. Why wouldnt the giants wanna lock him up long term. Why battle with such a great player .. the cardinaland rule is give good money where money is due. The young man has been in the league 2.5 yrs been in the bigs 2 yrs in full and won 2 cy youngs and probable will win more then that. Sign him to a 4 yr deal worth about 45 mill or 50 and i garuntee he will take it .. its 10 mill a yr and hes what we need. Hes our franchise he puts the fans in the stands. I dont wanna loose him to ny or boston especially since the ny owners have already said they cant wait if timmy becomes a free agent bcuz they would throw the bank at him and every team would do so. I like Todd as a long reliever and a spot stater as well. We were lucky that our pitchers didnt go down last yr . You saw what happend when Johnson went out we struggled to find a 5 and when we did it was a bit to late 52 days till opening day I cant wait to see the new giants in uni’s
This is becoming a joke. The Giants really don’t have a leg to stand on in negotiations with the Zito contract still looming large. They did it to themselves and I don’t want to get into a debate on Zito or his contract. it all comes down to in his 2nd complete year Timmy won his second Cy Young. Pay the man what he deserves, Giants management needs to kick themselves in the ass, bite the pillow and pay Timmy or let him become a Yankee the second he can. Tired of the bull Sh*t on how they don’t have the money. The park is almost always full, food prices are crazy along with merchandising.
I can’t get into to much detail due to confidentiality agreements but the management makes money and they are letting personal greed stand in the way of a NL West Championship. Keep the kid happy and keep him a Giant for life cause he’ll cut his hair to become a Yankee faster than Sabean can sign another bad veteran to a horrible contract -
i’m sad that the giants offered Tim only three years…. I’m sure that he will probably leave after those three years to boston or yankees. He will most likely be signed for an outragious ammount that the giants wont be able to compete…we already struggling about numbers with him and its his first hearing plus he wants about 13/ year….look a C.C and the NYY….contract over and the yanks got him…..keep in mind that lincecum has way much ratings than CC
i honestly think they should give him what he deserves (the 13 mil.) he asked for. I don’t think he is greedy at all, well its really the agents but Timmy deserves it, and theres guys getting way more than 13 mil & don’t give their team squat.
another thing is idk why they said only 3 years ?? He wants to remain a Giant forever and so do the fans.
