SF Giants Rumors: Lopez and Affeldt Coming Back, Beltran Fires Agent

Posted on November 1st, 2011 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

The San Francisco Giants have signed LHP Javier Lopez to a two-year, $8.5 million ($4.25 in 2012 and $4.25 in 2013) contract. They have also exercised LHP Jeremy Affeldt‘s $5 million option. These are two must have bullpen guys for the Giants to continue their success of holding teams from the starting pitching to the closer.

It’s speculated that the Giants are going to aggressively pursue Carlos Beltran. The good news is they won’t have to deal with big-time agent Scott Boras. Beltran has fired Boras and is going with agent Dan Lozano. Lozano is Albert Pujols and Jimmy Rollins agent. Is anyone thinking a possible triple signing for the Giants? It’s okay to have wishful thinking.

  1. Sign one, get two free?

  2. I’ll take Beltran over those two! Get a leadoff hitter and if the Giants stay healthy…..

Great getting Lopez and Affedlt back!!

  3. Good job getting Lopez quickly. He could’ve made more. While I liked the idea of not vesting with Affeldt to maybe get him cheaper, why run the risk? Someone will always want and covet left handed relief. Look at Arthur Rhodes and Darren Oliver. Someone would’ve most likely paid him the 5 mm. Why would you give a hometown discount to someone after they declined your option? Well anyway, sign Crisp, offer a minor league deal to Sizemore and bring Beltran back. Then be done with it, see you halfway through February.

  4. Getting Beltran would be a HR. If they get him, he will be their number 1 hitter with Pablo being a close 2nd. Not having Boras as his agent I think may work in the Giants favor. Pitching is all good and fine, but the Giants more than anything need hitting. Even with some of their injured buys back, it may not be enough. TIme will tell.
