Juan C. Rodriguez of South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the Marlins have begun weighing the merits of making a run at the Giants infielder (Mark DeRosa) to solidify their third base situation.
DeRosa is making $6 million, so that’s a pretty penny for the Marlins if they decide to try to make a deal. The Giants might be willing to pay a portion if they like the player they are getting in reuturn, but they will not dump DeRosa for nothing.
DeRosa is in the second year of his two-year contract. He’s played in 37 games, and is hitting .216 with 1 HR, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. Not exactly what the Giants thought they were getting at the time of the 2-year ($12 million) deal.
Andrew Baggarly says (via twitter) that DeRosa will be placed on the DL tomorrow. Emmanuel Burriss will be replacing DeRosa. His repaired tendon is fine, but the area around it is inflamed, says Baggarly.
Giants ace Tim Lincecum has 28 games in which he has struck out 10-or-more batters. It’s the most by any player in Major League Baseball since 2007.
