Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says if Japanese infielder Hiroyuki Nakajima doesn’t want to play for the Yankees. It’s possible the Yankees could do a sign-and-trade.
The Yankees won the exclusive negotiating rights to Nakajima with a $2.5 million bid. Rosenthal’s sources say the San Francisco Giants and Cubs are among the teams that like Nakajima.
Japanese Ace Bidding
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants did not make a bid for Japanese ace Yu Darvish.
Jon Heyman tweets that the Giants are in agreement on a deal with reliever Guillermo Mota. The deal has since been reported as 1-year, $1 million.
John Shea says (via twitter) he hears that the Giants and Eli Whiteside are close to a deal for the 2012 season. Whiteside was non-tendered by the Giants on Monday (12/12/11).
Bill Ladson of MLB.com says (via twitter) the Nationals have signed Waldis Joaquin to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
