SF Giants Rumors: Nate Schierholtz On The Trading Block?

Posted on July 3rd, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

With the trading deadline coming up at the end of the month. You’re going to start hearing names thrown out there that could be on the trading block.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports says San Francisco Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz is the kind of player that will draw some interest at the trading deadline. Schierholtz is out of options, and other teams will view him as a valuable asset.

Nasty Nate hasn’t been getting much playing time in the Giants outfield. He’s found himself back on the bench as the 4th outfielder. He’s currently batting .248 with 3 homers and 12 RBI.

Nate is a local guy, so how would you feel if the Giants parted ways with him? Don’t forget to go to the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page to share your thoughts with other die hard Giants fans!

  1. Blanco is losing ground right now.It may be a mistake to trade Nate until We have a better idea if Blanco will recover.

  2. It would be a mistake to trade Nate. However Bochy would rather have a 35 year old player that is slowing down as even a 4th outfieldet, than let Nate continue to develop with consistent playing time. As long as present management prefers older players he will never be given a true and unconditional chance to be an every day player. I know people will say he had his chance, but he was never given the latitude of a slump like Rowen, Huff and many past vets. As sorry as I would be to see him traded it maybe best of he wants to play. In the future, Giants may perhaps trade another young player to get him back once he is in him mid/late 30′s and thinking retirement.

  3. I would hate to see the Giants lose Nate. He has had a lot of clutch hits over the years and is an excellent defensive RF. However, he has had opportunities, but doesn’t seem to be able to sustain steady contributions offensively. My sense is to keep him and get him into games every third / fourth day in order to keep his bat sharp.

  4. Being from the bay, I LOVE Nate and what he brings to the table as a baseball player, hometown kid and a good person. I would be very sad if the Giants traded Nate. HOWEVER, Nate has never been treated with the same respect most other players have received. Baseball is a streaky game and all players go hot and cold. Nate has never been allowed to play through any kind of slump.

He is immediately jerked out of the lineup after a bad series (Cincinnati, was batting ~.280 at the time with +.500 slugging). He is by far a better player than Blanco in both D and O. He is more proven in career numbers across the board yet Blanco has been playing everyday even though the last 20 games he has batted .173, with lifetime numbers of ~250 in both majors AND minors. With Bruce Bochy as the coach, Nate has no future with the Giants in any meaningful role. With that said, I hope Nate is traded and gets a shot with a team that truly believes in him and what he brings to the table. I’d have to think, QUITE a few teams would feel that way.

We will miss you Nate but I’m sure many of us will still be a fan of yours. TRADE NATE

  5. You need a strong bench to win a championship, and in my humble opinion, Nate is one of the better 4th outfielders in the league. He also provides insurance in case one of our outfielders are lost long term due to injury.

  6. Nate is done developing, he’s no longer a prospect with potential. He is a fourth outfielder with a great glove and arm, above average speed, and a very streaky bat.

  7. I love Nate and would hate to see him traded.

I agree with many others who say he was never given a fair shake.

Blanco is not that great and I am bewildered as to why they prefer him over Nate.

Blanco is a 250 leadoff hitter? No way he stays there when Chris Brown comes up.

    Trade Blanco; Keep Nate!

  8. Oh me and the other Anthony are different Anthony’s obviously ;)

  9. I still think the Giants need a fourth outfielder and they need Nate to be ready. It is a long season! I will admit I am biased as I have been pulling for Nate for a long time. I grabbed his one and only splash hit last 7/8 and guess who he hit it off of? R.A. DIckey, the NY Met knuckleballer. If you want to connect on Giants baseball, I am “Dave Edlund” on Twitter and McCovey Cove DAVE on Facebook and Youtube. GO Giants!!!

  10. I’ve also been a supporter of Nate for many years now, and I wonder everytime I go anywhere near the San Ramon area where our World Series champion local Giant grew up.
It’s true Nate has had his chances but I would like to see him have one more try for 2-3 weeks. We could put Angel back at the top and he couldn’t do any worse than Gregor is right now. On the flipside Nate doesn’t look confident or happy. You never know though, Nate might find some confidence with another look. He’s worth it.

  11. Ljones – did I miss something? Who are all these mid to late 30′s Giants players who are getting playing time? Penny? Affeldt? I’m lost.
