Opening Day didn’t go the way San Francisco Giants fans had hoped for, but guess what?!?! It’s just game 1 of 162! The Giants are back at it tonight against the Dodgers, and Madison Bumgarner will try to get the Giants their first win of the 2013 season.
Matt Cain started his first career Major League Opening Day, and it didn’t end like he hoped it would. However, he did pitch a great game! Cain tossed 6 innings of shutout ball. He gave up 4 hits, 1 walk and racked up 8 strikeouts.
There wasn’t much offense generated against Clayton Kershaw. There was a few hard balls that were hit right at the Dodgers. Infielder Marco Scutaro snapped his 20-game hit streak that carried over from the end of last year’s regular season.
Pablo Sandoval did have a 2-for-4 day at the plate. It just wasn’t enough of a spark to get things rolling for the Giants.
No need to be down Giants fans. Championships are won in October and not in April. Let’s not forget that the Giants were swept in Arizona last year to start the 2012 season, and we all remember how that season ended?!?!
