The 2013 season is now officially over for the San Francisco Giants. Over the weekend they extended outfielder Hunter Pence to a five-year deal worth $90 million. Pence will be paid $16 million in 2014, and $18.5 million annually, the remaining four years.
The Giants have started conversations with Tim Lincecum‘s agents but Lincecum doesn’t seem to be in any rush to get a deal done at this time.
GM Brian Sabean wasn’t at AT&T Park yesterday when the season came to an end. He took a trip to the Dominican Republic and it’s not a vacation. Sabean and other Giants representatives are there to scout Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu. They have already made it clear that they’re looking for a bat that can drive the ball. Abreu seems to fit the bill. Although a lot of other teams are also showing interest in him.
Barry Zito had a personal moment with Giants fans yesterday as he received a standing ovation after striking out Mark Kotsay, and then Zito had some kind words that he shared with the fans following the Giants walk-off win over the San Diego Padres.
Reliever Javier Lopez says his first choice is to re-sign with the Giants. I’m sure the Giants want him back as well. Let’s hope they can find some common ground and get this deal worked out quickly. I would hate for Lopez to get other teams bidding on his services.
