SF Giants Rumors – Pirates Ryan Doumit Could Spark Giants Interests

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of Foxsports.com reported Thursday night that the Pirates could trade switch hitter Ryan Doumit. Doumit drew interest from several teams during this week’s general managers meetings in Chicago.

Doumit has the potential to hit for power. He hit .250 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI’s in an injury-shortened 2009 season. Doumit has big-league experience as a catcher, first baseman and right fielder.

Rosenthal and Morosi say his versatility could appeal to teams that need to add a power bat but aren’t entirely sure where.

The Giants match that general description: Their catcher (Bengie Molina) is a free agent, their situation at first base is murky (Ryan Garko may be traded) and perhaps their biggest off-season need is a corner outfield bat.

Doumit is under contract for two more seasons, with two-year club options for 2012 and 2013. He is set to earn $3.55 million in 2010 and $5.1 million in 2011.
