Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says the San Francisco Giants are focused on keeping Buster Posey behind the plate, so catcher Brian McCann isn’t a realistic option for the G-men. However, they could be kicking the tires on moving Angel Pagan to left field, and possibly make a run at free agent Jacoby Ellsbury, or trade possibilities. Denard Span could be one of their options via trade.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle said the Giants are looking for two starters to round out the rotation, and secondary a left fielder. The Giants don’t plan on going after a player that has a qualifying offer; however that could change in time.

“We’re not going to be interested in giving up our first-round draft pick, so anybody with a qualifying offer with first-round draft pick compensation attached to that, we’re probably not going to be in on,” said GB Brian Sabean.

Chris Haft of MLB.com reports that free agent starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has received interest from multiple teams, and he’s prepared to bolt out of town if or when a club makes an acceptable offer. Haft also points out that the Giants should negotiate more seriously with Vogelsong if they truly want to keep him.

David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says (via Twitter) the he’s been told that the Giants are serious about signing Tim Hudson or Dan Haren type to short deals (two years) with a higher annual salary.

In another Schulman article, he points out that the two issues with signing Hudson are now non-issues. Hudson is willing to move to the west coast to pitch for the right team, and the Atlanta Braves gave a low offer to Hudson (lower than the $9 million he received in 2013) that he’s not inclined to accept.

The Giants are receiving a lot of calls for Pablo Sandoval, but they don’t want to lose his power bat in the lineup and they don’t have any player ready to fill in at third base.

Reliever Javier Lopez is drawing interest from other clubs and is in no hurry to sign. He’s keeping contact with the Giants, and it sounds like he’ll give the Giants a chance to make the last offer before he decides to sign with another team.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Giants are among the teams that are considering Bronson Arroyo. However, they’d prefer to strike a quick two-year deal for a number four starter.
