SF Giants Rumors: Posey, Scutaro, Pence And Roster Shuffle

The San Francisco Giants were dodging bullets all night, but it didn’t matter either way. Their offense wasn’t able to get anything started against Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese. Today is the final game of the 4 game set with the Mets. The G-Men have won 7 of their last 11 against the Mets at AT&T Park, so let’s hope they can get the win today to split the 4-game set.

The only offense from the Giants last night was a solo shot by Buster Posey (14th homer on the year). Infielder Marco Scutaro had a hit in the game. I wouldn’t say he’s on fire, but he has hit safely in all 5 of his games as a Giant thus far.

Newly acquired outfielder Hunter Pence made his Giants debut, and had an 0-for-4 night with 2 strikeouts. I’m sure he was feeling the pressure of playing in San Francisco and hearing the crowd cheering loud for him. He probably was trying extra hard to make something happen at the plate. It’s just game 1 of the Pence era, so let’s give him a few games under his belt to find his groove.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com said (via twitter) he asked Pence if he would consider signing with the Giants long term. “Absolutely. That would be wonderful,” said Pence.

In another tweet, Baggarly says Pence told him no team has ever offered him a long-term commitment. It sounds like Pence would love to call San Francisco his long-term home!

Roster Shuffle

Catcher Eli Whiteside and outfielder Justin Christian were optioned to Fresno. Catcher Hector Sanchez and pitcher Shane Loux will be activated to take their spots on the roster.

Emmanuel Burriss has cleared waivers, and his been option to Fresno as well.

I heard on the Mets pre-game show last night that Pablo may be out for another month! Any word from the team on his condition?
