The San Francisco Giants are hopefully at rock bottom. If this is their lowest point of the season, I will take it! They’re still only three games back in the NL West, and haven’t come close to running on all cylinders.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) says the Giants have lost three games this year when they scored at least 8 runs. They lost four such games from 2010-2012. Their pitching isn’t anything close to what it was in the prior years. There’s still plenty of time to get this turned around.
Today is the one year anniversary of Matt Cain‘s perfect game against the Astros. He’s also on the hill tonight for the Giants. Let’s hope this Perfect Game stuff turns into an annual thing!
Yesterday the Giants sent reliever George Kontos down to the minors and called up pitcher Sandy Rosario. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that yesterday was also his birthday (Kontos). I’m sure that’s not the best birthday gift he’s ever received.
Kontos sent out a tweet last night to his fans. “Want to thank everyone for all the birthday wishes and support today. What got me here in the first place will get me back again.”
As reported yesterday, Shane Loux had Tommy John surgery yesterday in San Francisco. He also sent out a tweet last night to his fans. “Thanks to everyone for the thoughts, prayers and kind words today. Surgery went better than expected and I’m back at home. Thanks again.”
Ice Cream Anyone?
Closer Sergio Romo has teamed up with a local ice cream company “Three Twins” to have his own ice cream flavor. They will release a new flavor called “Sergio Romo’s Mexican Chocolate.” Every pint will also be stamped with the phrase “It only tastes Illegal.” This flavor is expected to hit stores in September.
