It took a big swing off the bat of pinch hitter Hector Sanchez to avoid a Nationals sweep. Sanchez hit a 3-run homer with two outs and two strikes in the top of the 9th inning to give the San Francisco Giants a 4-3 lead that closer Sergio Romo would save.

Pitcher Sandy Rosario has been diagnosed with a bruised sternum after getting hit by a screaming comebacker of the bat of Adam LaRoche in yesterday’s game. It’s not clear if Rosario will be available tonight in Miami.
Outfielder Angel Pagan will begin his rehab assignment today in Arizona. He’s been out with a torn hamstring. If all goes well, we should expect to see Pagan back with the Giants around September 1st.
