SF Giants Rumors: Sandoval Is Open To Multi-Year Deal, Side Notes

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says he spoke with Pablo Sandoval‘s agent Ryan Morgan. Morgan tells Baggarly that he has had very broad discussions with Giants VP Bobby Evans about a contract. Sandoval’s camp is open to a multi-year contract.

Sandoval is arbitration eligible and is not eligible to hit the free agent market till 2015. One thing we do know is Sandoval will get a raise from his 2011 salary ($500K). The Kung Fu Panda hit .315 with 23 homers and 70 RBI’s in 2011. Did I forget to mention he was also an All Star?   I’m not concerned about him signing a multi-year deal at this point. They still have time to lock him up before he can test the water in the free agent pool.

Side Notes

Travis Ishikawa is a free agent, and trying to comeback from an injury that had him miss a lot of time in 2011. Alex Hinshaw has signed a minor league deal with the Padres.

Got to keep the Panda. Even though he had an off 2010, he is a lifetime .300 hitter after 3 1/2 seasons. I would not be surprised if the Panda hit 30 HR’s this year if he stays healthy. If the Giants have an all-star fielder that year, it is either going to be Posey or Panda and I think it is more likely THE PANDA. 2012 will be remembered as the Year of the Panda!!
