SF Giants Rumors: Schierholtz Days Could Be Numbered

Posted on July 19th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says outfielder Nate Schierholtz is ready to move on if another team wants to give him a larger role. Schierholtz doesn’t get very much playing time these days for the San Francisco Giants.

“There’s no place I’d rather play than here, says Schierholtz. “It’s where I grew up. It’s home to me. I love the fans. I love the city. There’s not one thing I can’t say I love about this place, but I think I’ve come to the realization that maybe I’m not their guy. I’m not in the cards having a future here.”

The 28 year old Schierholtz is currently batting .248 with 3 homers and 12 RBI. He’s a career .270 hitter with 21 homers and 114 RBI.

It’s sad to see a local guy want to leave, but you can’t blame him for wanting to go to a place where he’s going to get more playing time.

  1. He should check with Travis Ishikawa about the pros and cons of changing teams. Nate would have a larger role if he had better offensive stats — which may be a vicious cycle. But even when Gregor Blanco is in a slump, there’s no compelling reason to replace him with Nate.

  2. I’m just looking forward to when we approach the trade deadline. I want to see more production from the hitters especially down in the bottom of the order.

  3. I love Nate! He’s a great outfielder with a superior arm.
If he hits; he plays. Simple.
    Blanco is not the answer.

  4. I have always been a fan of Nate and would hate to see him go. He is an excellent defensive outfielder, and has proven he can hit in the 260 / 270 range given the opportunity.
