SF Giants Rumors: Time Is Ticking Till The Trading Deadline
There is five days left till the trading deadline, and the San Francisco Giants have yet to make a move. The Dodgers pulled the trigger on a trade for Hanley Ramirez, so Giants fans are hoping Brian Sabean will work his magic and counter with a move himself.
Any site/paper/article that mentions the Giants is talking about the team looking for bullpen help (they do need), but this offense is really in need of a bat or two. We know Sabean might be a bit gun shy after trading Zack Wheeler for Carlos Beltran.
Infielder Pablo Sandoval has been getting treatment for the past two days on his strained hamstring. Friday the Giants will take another look at him, and see if he needs a trip to the DL or not.
I tried not to mention Tim Lincecum in this post, but how can I not? Timmy tossed 4.2 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. He was headed in the right direction, and now it’s another step back. The Giants aren’t in the market for a starting pitcher (so they say), but I don’t think they should rule it out just yet.

I’m with you, Steve. I’d like to see the Giants bidding for a starting pitcher, like Z. Greinke.
Giants need to get a guy like Corey Hart or Aramis Ramirez and maybe John Axford. I dont think the price would be too high. The Giants could give up Nate Schierholtz or Brandon Belt and maybe a “B” prospect like Brett Bochy or Tommy Joseph.
First base has become a black hole that is not going to be fixed by the return of Aubrey Huff. It’d be wonderful to have a Pujols or a Fielder but that’s not ever going to happen. The Cards might, however, be willing to part with Allen Craig for some much, much, much-need bullpen help (not Sergio Romo).
Hey,
I know I email you a lot but, I figured it would be only right for me to say something on here. I would like to see the Giants make a move for a starting pitcher and maybe try to trade one of ours ie Barry Zito. I know he has been good but if we can trade to bad contracts I wouldn’t mind seeing us maybe swap bad contracts that get us a good hitter. that would be our best bet like maybe trade Zito to the Brewers for Aramis Ramirez. Then try and trade a young star and Zito for maybe Zach G. If worse comes to worst I say we get Ramirez for next to nothing which I sure the Giants can swing that trade. If not Zach G lets push for Garza or James Shields. I have nothimg against Zito but, he can’t pitch in small ball parks you can see it. At AT&T he can throw that hanging curve ball but, anywhere else maybe San Diego at the most can he hang it and get away with it but I don’t trust Zito in the playoffs no way.. I see a guy like John Mayberry who had 5 homeruns all year knock two out against him in small park philly so we need to make a move but not at a big cost. I don’t like to jinx young stars but I just hope that the Zach Wheeler trade doesn’t come back to bits us like Lariano, Bonser, and Nathan.
Honestly, I hope we don’t do anything stupid. Belt has way too much potential to give up on him and Zito has saved our bacon this year. With Surkamp hurt, we really don’t have anyone in AAA (Hacker, please?) or even AA (Heston and Kickham have both tailed off). As for Bochy being a “B” product, don’t think so (especially with Hembree being hurt).
We have a great team. If anything, I’d rather put Timmy on the 30 Day DL, get him conditioning and bring up one of the kids to see if he can cut it. If we’re really worried about Belt, move Panda to first base and give Noonan (still pretty young) and Dominguez (sp?) a shot. There isn’t anything better on the market worth it.
