SF Giants Rumors – Uggla For J-Sanchez?
Posted on December 16th, 2009 by admin in SF Giants Rumors
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald says during the Marlins Dan Uggla trade talks with San Francisco, Giants players who were discussed were Jonathan Sanchez and Clayton Tanner (a top minor league pitcher) and a mid-level pitching prospect.
Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post says the Marlins are still trying to trade Uggla, who stands to make $8 million this year. There’s also a chance he could start the season with the Marlins, who won’t trade their slugger in a below-market deal.
King of Cali thoughts: I want the Giants to get Uggla, but the Marlins are going to want a lot for him. Sabean can’t count on the Uggla trade to happen. He needs to start kicking the tires on other ways to get some offense. I hope he’s really trying to make a move for an infielder and outfielder soon. All the big teams make moves and get who they want right away. You don’t see good teams waiting and hoping someone falls in their lap.

I totally agree with your thoughts on this. Now is the time to be more aggressive
No offense dude, but Marlins will be getting more than Jonathan Sanchez whose ERA has never been under 4.24. He is 25 years old and they marlins are looking for prospects. The Marlins know what they are doing and they are not going to trade Uggla for a average pitcher when they already have West, Sanchez, Vandenhurk, Miller, and Penn fighting for the last 3 spots on the starting rotation. It will cost the Giants a lot more then Sanchez.
I liked Tanner when I saw him at San Jose. His stuff isn’t overpowering though.
Sanchez for Uggla straight up. The Marlins DON’T want to end up stuck with him and paying him big $$$. Sabean just has to wait it out and NOT bid against himself (AKA Renteria).
Yes, the Giants need to let this one sit in the Marlins court and pursue other opportunities. Adrian Beltre still looks good…
Orioles just signed Garrett Atkins so take them out of the running for Uggla
Sabean has leverage here he doesn’t need to trade J Sanchez trade a package of Clayton Tanner and Conor Gillaspie and maybe Ryan Rohlinger for Uggla
Alex,
Thanks for the comment. I honestly don’t think it will cost much more than Jonathan Sanchez for Uggla. The Marlins say they will keep Uggla if they don’t get what they think they should for him. From what I have also been hearing is that the Marlins really do not want to take on his salary even though they are saying they will. What package do you think the Marlins would want for Uggla?

Mike,
I like your thinking! If they can’t sign Beltre or a Tejada. Then pull the trigger on the Uggla deal.

I’m hoping Sabean can hold off long enough to get the deal done without giving up Sanchez. Only time will tell. I’m sure the Giants will be making some move soon.
