SF Giants Rumors: Wilson Decision Looms, Romo Stat, Whiteside Gone, Posey Award, Cabrera Money

With the World Series win still fresh on most fans minds. It’s now time for the San Francisco Giants front office to start focusing on 2013.
It’s going to be a big decision for them to decide if Brian Wilson should be offered arbitration or non-tender him. Wilson made $8.5 million in 2012. The Giants could be considering a deal that doesn’t guarantee as much for 2013 but can be loaded with incentives. It’s a big risk to offer arbitration and risk him getting paid another $8.5 million or so and not be able to pitch in 2013.

Since 2010, Sergio Romo has the lowest WHIP (0.85) in the Major Leagues. Romo was the Giants closer as the season starting winding down and the entire 2012 playoffs.

The Yankees have claimed backup catcher Eli Whiteside off of waivers from the Giants. There really isn’t much need for Whiteside, as the Giants have backup catcher Hector Sanchez.

Buster Posey has won the players choice award for NL 2012 Comeback Player of the Year.

Melky Cabrera will receive a full share ($300K) for the Giants winning the World Series. I wish I got $300K to watch the Giants win the World Series on TV.

  1. I know this won’t be popular but I think Timmy would be a great unhitttable closer with the stuff he’s got!

  2. I don’t envy Sabean having to resolve this quandary. Sabean has a soft spot for those who got the Giants their championship in 2010, so what Willie wants will be a big factor.

  3. maybe melky got 330 k for “watching the w.s. on tv”, and for sure his screwup was nothing but selfish, but I think he deserves a w.s. share because without him from April thru the all-star game we would have been buried and had no chance for the final stretch and ultimate championship.

  4. It’s pretty obvious from his performance in the series that Timmy should be the main man in the middle innings reliever position.
