SF Giants Rumors: Winter Meetings, Bourn, Pagan, Victorino, Scutaro and Ross

Today is the start of the Winter Meetings. This is where the offseason really starts to shape itself, and you will hear about players signing. Teams will also start laying groundwork for some possible trades.

Jon Heyman tweeted (yesterday) that the San Francisco Giants are looking for a center fielder. He reports they’re talking to all of the big three free agents (Michael Bourn, Angel Pagan and Shane Victorino). Which means the Giants obviously have some money to spend.

Word on the street is Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is having hip surgery and will miss a few months of the 2013 season. You ask why am I talking about A-Rod?

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com (via Twitter) says A-Rod’s surgery could be a bad thing for the Giants. The Yankees are desperate for infield help in this thin market, so they could pursue Marco Scutaro to play third.

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) says GM Brian Sabean told him, “We’re not in on any high-ticket items.” Shea speculates that this would include any pursuit of Bourn.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com (via Twitter) reports that sources tell him the Phillies and Giants are still vying for Pagan. Cody Ross is also an option for both clubs, though not in the same center field/leadoff role.
