SF Giants Rumors: Zito Dominates, Posey’s Big Night, Sanchez Injury, EX-Giant DFA

Posted on July 18th, 2012 by admin in SF Giants Rumors

Everyone expected the San Francisco Giants to run into a brick wall when they faced the smoking hot Braves. Instead Barry Zito tossed 7 innings of 3 hit ball and not allowing a single run. In 5 career starts at Turner Field, Zito is 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA.

Buster Posey had a BIG night! Posey collected 3 hits and 5 RBI. One of his hits was a bases loaded double that cleared the bases.

Catcher Hector Sanchez was injured on a dive back to first base (pickoff attempt). As of now the Giants are not placing him on the DL. Pablo Sandoval will be the backup catcher tonight.

Update – Sanchez is being placed on the DL, Eli Whiteside will replace him on the roster.

Ex-Giant

Jonathan Sanchez was DFA by the Royals. Would you like to see him back in a Giants uniform as possibly a bullpen arm?

  1. Good Zito alternates with bad Zito. The way the G’s offense performed, bad Zito might have won this one,
but it would have been torture for all concerned.

By all means, make Sanchez an offer.

  2. Great game last night as the G men got some timely hitting. Zito looked sharp as he mixed his pitches well and kept the Brave hitters off stride all night. As for Sanchez, I think a minimum salary with built in incentive options for performance. He could be valuable as a spot starter and middle relief. Just some thoughts from the East Coast.
