SF Giants Rumors: 2012 NL West Champs, Over The Weekend Side Notes

The race to the NL West title is over! Your San Francisco Giants have been on a tear, and weren’t stopping till they stamped their ticket to the 2012 playoffs!
This NL West Championship is the Giants second in a three year span. I’m sure you didn’t forget about them winning the NL West in 2010, did you? Let’s hope this year has the same ending results as it did in 2010 (World Series Champions)!

Over The Weekend Side Notes

Sunday was a big stress relief day for outfielder Francisco Peguero. He started off his big league career with an 0-for-10 slump. However, Sunday was the day that a ton of weight was lifted off his shoulders as he beat out an infield hit for his 1st major league hit. He then followed that up with a solid single later in the game. Let’s also make that his first multi-hit game of his career.

Jaymee Sire of CSNBayArea.com says (via Twitter) all five starting pitchers will be on the playoff roster, with one pitching in relief. The rotation could be determined by matchups or home/road games. That’s music to Barry Zito‘s ears. He was left off the 2010 playoff roster. My hypothesis is Zito or Ryan Vogelsong will be in the bullpen.

Friday night Buster Posey was given the Willie Mac Award. It’s given out to a player on the Giants who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership consistently shown by Willie McCovey throughout his career. The players and coaches vote for the winner of this award. Posey was the perfect candidate for this award after coming back from his injury and leading by example day in and day out. Let’s hope this isn’t his last personal award of the year. Maybe we will see a batting title and an MVP coming soon!

Posey is a special player that time will bear out.

To be honest the way we started the season; losing Wilson then not getting Sanchez back and Huff clearly at the end of the line; plus losing Cabrera to an injury only to find out he was juicing; then the Dodgers getting Gonzales I didn’t think we would win the division let alone a wild card.

These guys have jelled and if they play smart they are mega scary to opposing teams!
Scutero was a great pickup and he and Pagan are an impressive tandem in the lineup.
