The San Francisco Giants have announced that they’ve extended GM Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy‘s contracts through 2016, and have options for 2017. It’s nice to see the team taking care of their GM and manager after winning two World Series in a three year span.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported earlier that the Giants and Buster Posey were in serious talks on a long-term deal. Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com later reported (via Twitter) that the Giants and Posey have agreed to a nine-year deal (8 year extension). The deal covers the remaining three years of arbitration and five of Posey’s free agency years. There’s also an option for 2022. You can pretty much say Posey is a Giant for life!

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) breaks down the contract details.

Signing bonus: $7 million

2013: $3 million

2014: $10.5 million

2015: $16.5 million

2016: $20 million

2017: $21.4 million

2018: $21.4 million

2019: $21.4 million

2020: $21.4 million

2021: $21.4 million

2022: Option – $22 million or $3 million buyout

Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News says (via Twitter) Posey’s deal is a record for a player with fewer than four years of service time, and obviously, the largest deal in Giants history.
