A day after the extra inning loss, the San Francisco Giants made a flurry of roster moves. They Designated for Assignment Cole Gillespie, purchased Kensuke Tanaka‘s contract, sent Hector Sanchez to the DL (right shoulder strain), and re-called Mike Kickham.

All these moves didn’t help the Giants get a win last night as they fell to the Mets 10-6. However, they still manage to score 6 runs. That’s usually enough runs at AT&T Park to get a win. Tanaka did get his first Major League hit in the game and made a great catch in left-field.

Bryant-Jon Anteola of The Fresno Bee says (via Twitter) Jeff Francoeur said he signed with the Giants because of the success veteran outfielders Cody Ross and Pat Burrell had upon joining the Giants then winning a World Series. After a day of traveling, Francoeur made it in time to play in last night’s Fresno Grizzlies game. He went 1-for-4 with 2 strikeouts.

The Mets are sending Zack Wheeler to the mound today to face the team that drafted him. The Giants sent Wheeler to the Mets for Carlos Beltran on July 28, 2011. Beltran was only here a few months and then signed with the Cardinals when he hit the free agent market.

How can the Giants sink any lower than if their former draft pick beats them and one of the worst team sweeps them? They have already hit rock bottom more times than I can remember this season.

  • As a Met Fan always appreciated Jeff and wish him the best with the Giants, except when they play the Mets.

The circumstances in which the Giants are now going through is due to the bad judgements of the past.
We could not expect our pitchers to continue to pitch close games day in and day out. They were not getting run support in the past but they could survive with 2 maybe 3 runs because of the good pitching and strong arms. Now those arms are tired and they have now worst run support.
I would only have traded Wheeler for Beltran if he could have had him for at least 2 years. Now the trade is coming back to haunt us. Somebody suggested a trade for Miami’s Stanton. I say, do everything you can to get him if for more than 2 or 3 years. This would provide 3 and 4 punch Posey and Stanton to care for the pitchers.
