If you missed it last night, the San Francisco Giants selected shortstop Christian Arroyo with their first pick (25th overall) in the 2013 MLB Draft. Arroyo is straight out of Hernando High School in Florida, and has a verbal commitment to play for the University of Florida.
In 30 High School games this year, Arroyo hit .524 with 55 hits, 35 RBI’s, 42 runs and 11 homers. He’s definitely an offensive shortstop. The Giants currently have Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik as the double play combo of the future. If Arroyo signs; the Giants would have some infield depth. In the future they could decide to part with Crawford or Panik in a trade. That’s still way down the road, so don’t give that Giants rumor any traction at this point.
