With Barry Zito‘s contract up and the possibility of Tim Lincecum signing elsewhere. The San Francisco Giants will have to be in play for some starting pitching. They’ve already been linked to a couple starting pitchers. One is a free agent and another is a trade possibility.
Free agent pitcher Bronson Arroyo thinks his time in Cincinnati is likely done. He’s looking for a three year deal, and is keeping all his options open. Yes, he’s up there in age, and is looking for a deal to close out his 30’s. “I feel I can pitch effectively at 37, 38 and 39 years old. I’ve never missed a start. Never been injured. I’ not a max-effort guy out there, so there’s no big-time wear and tear on me. I loved Cincinnati but I don’t think they’re in position to give me what I want,” said Arroyo. Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe says the Giants could be among one of the bidders for Arroyo’s services.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post says the Tampa Bay Rays ace pitcher David Price could be on the trading block. He’s two years away from free agency, so the Rays can really cash in now to receive a better package for Price. One of the teams listed as a possible destination via trade for Price was your Giants.
