SF Giants Rumors: Welcome Back To The Bay Area Tim Hudson, Jacoby Ellsbury, Pablo Sandoval

TimHudsonThe news broke today that the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a two-year deal with starting pitcher Tim Hudson. The two-year deal is worth $23 million. Hudson made $9 million last year for the Atlanta Braves, and they did not give Hudson a qualifying offer. They did want to bring Hudson back for 2014, but they didn’t want to even offer him what he made in 2013. They put a deal on the table for less money (less than $9 million). The aggressive Giants then swooped in to snatch Hudson with the two-year, $23 million deal. The 38 year old Hudson is coming off an ankle injury, but is expected to be healthy and ready to go for the 2014 season.
Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe reports that the Giants have some interest in Jacoby Ellsbury, but it still remains to be seen if the Giants or other interested teams will offer a $20 million salary over five to six years.
Cafardo also points out that Pablo Sandoval is available in a trade, but buyer should be aware of his weight issues. Sandoval can play first or third and there could be a market for him at either position. This offseason Sandoval isn’t working out in Arizona under the teams’ supervision. He’s working out in Venezuela, but appears to be taking his conditioning very serious. Sandoval’s brother has been posting pictures of Sandoval putting in work.

  • I have heard the rumor that Pablo is out there on a possible trade too. I hear Prince Fielder could be traded for Pablo with some other things thrown in. Pablo would be Detroit 3b man. Cabrera would move to 1B where he would replace Fielder. Fielder is way more expensive than Pablo, so other things would be involved. This trade is unlikely to happen, but you never know.
