SF Giants Rumors: Zito, Cabrera Record, All Star Voting, Giants Linked to Starting Pitcher

The San Francisco Giants have dropped game 2 of the 3-game series to the Angels. Barry Zito tossed 3 1/3 innings before Bruce Bochy finally decided to pull the hook. Zito gave up 8 runs in his short outing.
Outfielder Melky Cabrera is having an awesome year thus far. Last night he reached 100 hits in 291 plate appearances. That’s the fastest in San Francisco history! The living legend Willie Mays had the record since 1958. Mays reached 100 hits in 295 plate appearances.

All Star Voting

Buster Posey leads the voting amongst catchers. Right behind him is Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina. Cabrera has passed Ryan Braun in the outfielders voting, and is now in the top 3 (which means starting position). Pablo Sandoval is 2nd in voting behind Mets third baseman David Wright.

Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports says the Astros will listen to offers for pitcher Wandy Rodriguez. The Yankees, Blue Jays and Giants had representatives in attendance to watch Rodriguez pitch last night. With two struggling pitchers, (Zito and Tim Lincecum) I can see the Giants trying to solidify their starting rotation.

  • Mr.B says:

I think if we can get Wandy on a deal without having to give up too much on prospects that we should pull the trigger. I lost faith in Zito a long time ago even know he has had some improved performances this year but he is too inconsistent. I am not sure if Timmy is even going to come around this year after 9 rough outings but overall Timmy has been good so Wandy would give us the shot in the arm that we need.

  • Paul Moore says:

Some of the legendary closers in baseball have been starters. Was Rags not one of them. It seems Timmy starts off the beginning of the game but tires after about 5 innings. I think he could make the move as a closer and become top drawer again. I think just is no longer strong enough to go 9.

  • David says:

We may also be able to help the Phillies with their excess- payroll problem, come 31 July. For instance, if Cliff Lee keeps up his streak of losses, then that might factor favorably into negotiations.

I’m assuming that last year the G’s got Beltran instead of Pence because they weren’t willing to give the Astros what they wanted, and because g’d management got chumped by the Mets. So, I don’t think a trade with the Astros is likely this season.

Also Carlos Quentin would be a fine catch (Pads). That observation is in line with the prior-to-Pac-Bell Giants’ strategy: offense rules, and a pitcher’s most important stat is their batting average.

  • Love the Melky. We are waiting for his first Splash hit! That will cap off his sensational hitting!
