SF Giants Rumors: Lincecum and Giants Avoid Arbitration

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says (via twitter) the San Francisco Giants and ace Tim Lincecum have agreed to a two-year deal, worth $40.5 million.

This means the Giants have bought out Lincecum’s two remaining arbitration years, and Lincecum is still eligible to be a free agent in 2014. Barry Zito is still the highest paid player on the 2012 roster. Lincecum gets a $500k bonus, $18 million in 2012 and $22 million in 2013.

SF Giants Rumors: Arbitration Recap

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Kung Fu Panda is now locked in. The San Francisco Giants and Pablo Sandoval have agreed to a three-year deal worth $17.15 million. Sandoval will be making $3.2 million in 2012, $5.7 million in 2013, and $8.25 million in 2014. Which means all of his arbitration years are covered. Sandoval is eligible to be a free agent prior to the 2015 season.

Nate Schierholtz also avoids arbitration by signing a one-year deal worth $1.3 million. As reported yesterday on SF Giants Rumors, Melky Cabrera ($6 million), Santiago Casilla ($2.2 million) and Angel Pagan ($4.85 million) have also signed to avoid arbitration. The only pending arbitration eligible players for the Giants are Tim Lincecum and Sergio Romo.

Lincecum has filed for $21.5 million and the Giants countered with $17 million offer. They are just $4.5 million apart, so I’m confident they will come to an agreement before any arbitration hearing has to take place. If Lincecum gets more than $19 million this year. He will surpass Barry Zito as the highest paid player on the Giants in 2012.

Romo should also find some common ground with the Giants as he asked for $1.75 million and the Giants offered $1.3 million. Maybe they can just meet at $1.5 million and call it a day.

Side Note

John Shea says (via twitter) he asked Bobby Evans if there is payroll room for a starting pitcher and outfield depth. Evans told him the five starters are in place and mentioned Gregor Blanco as possible outfield depth. Blanco hit .274 last season for the Royals in 49 games.

SF Giants Rumors: Sandoval Update, Tis The Season To Get Married

The San Francisco Giants 3rd baseman Pablo Sandoval sent out some tweets last night. He will not be playing Venezuelan winter ball, but will participate in their home run derby. Sandoval said he’s not playing winter ball, because he’s in negotiations with the Giants.

“Hi everyone, just want to let everyone know, that I won’t be playing winter ball this year. Thanks for the support,” Sandoval tweet.

Sandoval is an arbitration eligible player, and his 2011 salary was $500,000. Look for a nice pay raise for the Kung Fu Panda. Keep in mind the Giants are trying to keep their payroll around $130 million for 2012, so lets see what they work out for his 2012 salary.

Tis The Season To Get Married

The highest paid Giants player, Barry Zito has applied for a marriage license, and CSNBayArea.com sources say the wedding will take place this Saturday in Marin County. The future Mrs. Zito is Amber Marie Seyer. She’s a 25-year-old actress and former Miss Missouri USA.

Nate Schierholtz is also getting married this Saturday (same day as Zito) in Texas to his longtime girlfriend, 25-year-old business consultant Kate Eveland.

Someone that has already tied the knot this offseason is shortstop Brandon Crawford. B-Craw was just married this past weekend.

SF Giants Rumors: Wilson’s Long Term Health A Question, Giants Can Afford To Take Risks

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle thinks the Giants might have some concerns about Brian Wilson‘s long-term health, and that’s why they may pick up Jeremy Affeldt‘s $5 million option.

Matt Cain could be close to signing a contract extension since he’s a free agent after the 2012 season. He’s a top priority for the Giants right now since Brian Sabean has said he wants to keep the pitching staff together.

Schulman also believes the Giants revenues and payroll have reached a threshold that allows them to take contract risks for the future in order to win now, especially with the Aaron Rowand and Barry Zito deals coming off the books in 2013 and 2014.

SF Giants Rumors: Bumgarner Ready To Dominate, Injury Update!

The San Francisco Giants continue their road trip as they stop in Atlanta for four games with the Braves. The G-Men need their pitching to dominate in case their offense decides to takes a night off. Madison Bumgarner takes the mound tonight and hopes to push this winning streak to three games. Bumgarner has the 2nd lowest ERA on the road since April 27 (2.48). The Giants overall have the 2nd best team ERA (3.15) behind the Phillies and just ahead of the Braves.

Injury Update

Giants closer Brian Wilson has a stiff back, but is available in the bullpen tonight. The game was on the line yesterday, and the Giants pen (Wilson-less) was able to handle business!

Sergio Romo has an active streak of 13 scoreless innings pitched. He didn’t get a chance to extend the streak yesterday in Florida due to a sore right elbow. Romo could possibly be headed to the DL.

Carlos Beltran is not in today’s starting lineup against the Braves (7 straight games), and is likely to be headed to the DL. Beltran seems to be swinging fine from the right side, but feels the pain when he takes left-handed swings. Bruce Bochy is okay with the team playing a man shot at this time. Decision on Beltran is expected tomorrow.

Andres Torres has a right leg contusion and is on the 15-day DL. That’s how Brandon Belt made his way back to the Giants roster. He seized the opportunity by hitting 2 homers against the Marlins yesterday.

Barry Zito seems to really have injured himself pitching a rehab game for the Fresno Grizzlies. It’s an ankle injury (x-rays negative), but it’s not likely that Zito will be pitching anytime soon.

SF Giants Rumors: Possible Number 5 Starters, Beltran Update

Steve Kroner of the San Francisco Chronicle says Bruce Bochy wouldn’t commit to Jonathan Sanchez making his next scheduled start, Tuesday in Atlanta.

“We don’t try to bang it with the other club,” Bochy said. “We try to pitch and keep it close and find a way to win the game. A lot of these games we let get away.”

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says Barry Zito is scheduled to start for the Fresno Grizzlies on Saturday, but those plans could change.

Possible starters for the Giants Tuesday in Atlanta are Sanchez, Zito, Eric Surkamp or Dan Runzler. Please stay tuned…

Beltran Update

Carlos Beltran is doubtful for Friday’s game in Florida. Beltran has received a cortisone shot for his wrist, and could possibly be headed to the DL. If Beltran takes a trip to the DL, Brandon Belt may get another call back to the show. His frequent flyer miles have to be adding up!

Freddy Sanchez is having season-ending shoulder surgery today, and Giants fans are sure going to miss him! He’s having the surgery today, so he can be ready for Spring Training next year.

Barry Zito has been placed on the DL to make make room for Jonathan Sanchez. Sanchez will get the start Friday night against the Phillies.

Zito didn’t appear to be injured after his last start, but it’s a way to not have to DFA him for now.

Since Being Traded

Carlos Beltran is 4-for-21 (.190) in a Giants uniform and 2 of those hits (2-for-4) came in his first home game as a Giant last night.

Jeff Keppinger is hitting .262 (11-for-42) in 11 games for the Giants. He’s holding down second base for the injured F-Sanchez.

Orlando Cabrera has only played in 2 games for the G-Men and is hitting .143 (1-for-7) in a Giants uniform. He’s excited to be a Giant since he lost his starting role with the Indians.

There is still plenty of games left, and let’s not forget that the Giants are still in first by 1 game over the Diamondbacks. These 3 players are going to get their strokes soon, and this offensive will get a kick (like having a Red Bull) by these additions to the lineup.

SF Giants Rumors: Catcher Trade, Skip Start, Keppinger Update, Trading Deadline Coverage!

There is still two days left till the trading deadline. Giants GM Brian Sabean isn’t done trying to upgrade this team. Let’s not forget that the G-Men can still use some help behind the plate.

One name that is still out there is the Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez. Hernandez has been splitting time behind the plate for the Reds, and is hitting .307 with 10 homers in 61 games. That’s the kind of bat the Giants would love to add behind the plate, as they look to win their division and defend the World Series Championship!

Did I forget to mention the Giants are playing the Reds this weekend? Let’s hope Sabean pulls the trigger on the Hernandez deal, so the Giants can come back home with a catcher.

Next Start Could Be Skipped

Barry Zito was the only blemish for the Giants in Philadelphia. The Giants haven’t made it official, but it’s looking more and more likely that Zito’s start Sunday is going to be skipped.

Keppinger Trade

Jeff Keppinger has played 7 games in a Giants uniform, and is is hitting .208 in those 7 games. It’s a small sample size, but give him some time Giants fans. He’s a decent hitter!

Pablo Sandoval left Sunday’s game with a tight quad muscle, but no need to hit the panic button. Sandoval expects to be back in the lineup tomorrow when the Giants are in Chicago to face the Cubs in a doubleheader.

Jonathan Sanchez has been placed on the disabled list with a left bicep tendinitis. Which solves the Barry Zito problem for now. Zito will take Sanchez’s spot in the rotation and will get the start in the second game of the doubleheader with the Cubs.

Mike Fontenot will start his rehab stint in the Arizona Summer League. He will then rejoin the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday.

Brandon Belt is scheduled to take batting practice today and hopes to begin his rehab games next weekend.
