Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez could be back in the lineup Friday (Giants have confirmed Posey will play). Posey would be behind the dish, and Sanchez would be in a DH role. Sanchez doesn’t think he will be able to play the field by the end of this week.
Hector Sanchez will be out of action for a couple of days to nurse his right-hamstring injury.
Closer Brian Wilson had his last tuneup before he makes his Cactus League debut on Sunday. Lets hope he’s back to his awesome ways.

It’s still very early in the Cactus League, but there is some good signs that this year might not be as much of an offensive struggle as it was in 2011. For starters Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez should be back and healthy. Lets take a look at some players that are off to a hot start in Arizona.
Let’s start with Melky Cabrera. Cabrera is hitting .455 with 2 homers in his first 3 games this spring. I know it’s just spring training games, but I would rather see a player with good numbers like this than hitting under .200.
Brandon Crawford is known for his glove, and the Giants aren’t expecting much from his bat in 2012. Crawford has been putting in the work and is off to a great start so far. He’s hitting .571 with 3 RBI in his first 3 cactus games.
Aubrey Huff knows first base is his position to lose, and he doesn’t seem ready to let anyone else take over at this time. Huff’s bat seems to be clicking on all cylinders this week. He’s hitting .429 with a 1 homer and 4 RBI.
Brett Pill is making sure everyone knows he’s at camp this year. Pill is fighting for a roster spot, and has been seeing some action all of the field to mold him into a utility player. Pill is hitting .462 with a homer and 4 RBI.
All of these stats are prior to today’s game. This is just stats for a few players after just a couple of Cactus League games. It’s nice to see who’s starting off hot!
What’s your thoughts on the Giants bats in the first week of Cactus League games?

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says he seen Buster Posey running bases today for a about 10 minutes. The San Francisco Giants are hoping to get Posey into a game by this weekend.
Clay Hensley threw a second bullpen session after tweaking a hamstring, and Schulman says Hensley has declared himself ready to pitch in a game.
Freddy Sanchez did some running today, but had the day off from throwing. Sanchez is expected to play by this weekend.
This is really good news, and fans can expect to see Posey/Sanchez back on the field with their team in the near future. Let’s get them as many AB’s as possible in spring, so they can be locked in when the season starts. These guys are two key components in this Giants offense and we know how they did last year without them.
What’s your thoughts on Posey, Hensley and Sanchez close to getting into some spring games?

The San Francisco Giants will have their first Cactus League game tomorrow (Saturday). Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says Buster Posey will be held out of the first couple of Spring Training games. Posey hasn’t had any setbacks from his injury, but he also hasn’t tested his sliding and needs to work on running the bases.
There is no need to rush Posey. Let’s be sure he passes all the proper hurdles before he straps the gear on and becomes the Giants backstop. We just need him to be ready for the start of the 2012 season, because his bat was truly missed in 2011.
Twitter Nation
I’m sure some of you out there are really excited to hear that Tim Lincecum has joined the Twitter Nation (@TimLincecum).
What’s your thoughts on the Cactus League starting for the Giants tomorrow, Posey sitting out games and Lincecum joining the Twitter Nation?

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says catcher Buster Posey and the San Francisco Giants are not expecting to discuss a multi-year deal at this time. Schulman also says Posey will be eligible for arbitration after this season as a “Super Two” player, which means he’ll have four years of arbitration eligibility, not three.
Fans don’t have to worry about Posey walking away anytime soon. He still has this year before he is arbitration eligible. The Giants are not concerned with a multi-year deal yet, because Posey is still pre-arbitration eligible. The Giants have the right to renew Posey’s one-year contract at whatever price they choose. After this season is when you can see Posey’s pay start to rise, and that’s when the Giants will start trying to work out a multi-year deal.
Let’s just take it one step at a time, and see how he comes back in the 2012 from his horrific ankle injury.
What’s your thoughts on Posey’s contract status?

The San Francisco Giants had their Media Day on Friday (2/3/12). I was lucky enough to attend this event, and had a chance to interview multiple players (Brian Wilson, Madison Bumgarner, Etc.). I will be posting them on the site soon, so continue to come back to check them out.
A few of us had a chance to sit down with Giants manager Bruce Bochy, and GM Brian Sabean. Below is some quotes from our discussion.
Bochy was asked, how do you think the team will be improved in 2012 compared to last year?
“I think you start with the fact that we’re healthy. We get our catcher back. Buster (Buster Posey), we certainly missed him and Freddy Sanchez. You get your two hole and four hole hitter. That’s gonna make it better,” said Bochy.
“We kept our pitching for the most part intact. Sure we moved Jonathan Sanchez, but we got a nice everyday player for that (Melky Cabrera). With Vogelsong (Ryan Vogelsong) having his breakthrough season last year that allows Brian to make a move like that. Knowing he’s our fourth starter and I think Barry Zito is going to do a nice job for us in that fifth spot,” said Bochy
Sabean tells us how they knew the pitching staff was going to change.
“The pitching staff was going to change. We knew that we probably couldn’t pay Sanchez $6 million in arbitration. We knew and hoped to use him as a trade chip which we did. For instance to get Cabrera. We knew Zito was going to become the fifth starter,” said Sabean.
I will be updating more news/quotes tomorrow that I was able to get at Giants Media Day.

Rael Enteen of CSNBayArea.com says Ryan Vogelsong isn’t concerned about the San Francisco Giants offense heading into the 2012 season.
“Not concerned at all. We’re getting two really good players back from injury (Buster Posey, Freddy Sanchez) so it’s almost like we signed two free agents,” said Vogelsong.
Vogelsong is going to be the number four starting pitcher in the Giants rotation. He’s coming off a spectacular 2011 season, and this is what Vogelsong said when asked about proving that 2011 wasn’t a fluke and it was legit.
“That’s the main goal right now. I’d be lying if I said it was different then that because it’s not. I know that as soon as I take one bad step or have a bad game. That’s what’s going to be said and I’m going to have to try to keep that down to a minimum and put up as many quality starts up as I can,” said Vogelsong.
What’s your thoughts on the Vogelsong not worried about the Giants offense, and do you think he can relive his 2011 magic?

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News gives some insights on a few players. Baggarly said closer Brian Wilson arrived in Arizona last week to get a jump on his throwing program. In the next few days he’s expected to throw off a mound for the first time since the San Francisco Giants shut him down because of recurring elbow soreness last season.
The injury did not require surgery, so the Giants are hoping the time off will help his cranky elbow. Wilson shouldn’t have any restrictions during Spring Training.
Freddy Sanchez has made steady progress with his surgically-repaired right shoulder, and will start making throws to bases next week. Hitting hasn’t been a problem for Sanchez since he started swinging the bat this offseason.
Everything is pointing in the right direction for a healthy Sanchez at the start of the 2012 season. Sanchez is in a contract year, and he’s a guy that puts everything out on the field at all times. I expect him to have a solid year if he can avoid the injury bug.
Buster Posey will be in Arizona on January 31 for a few days of rehab before attending FanFest at AT&T Park on February 4th. It’s a guessing game for everyone right now to see how Posey will be behind the plate until he’s put in some games in Spring Training. The Giants are sure looking forward to seeing Posey back in the middle of the lineup in 2012. Your teams offense sure did miss you in 2011!
What’s your thoughts on Wilson, Sanchez and Posey being healthy in 2012?

Chris Haft of MLB.com says catcher Buster Posey has added running to his workout regimen. Posey has mixed 30 and 60-yard sprints, agility drills and mild distance running into his routine three times per week since the new year began.
“Part of it is rehab for his ankle and part of it is normal conditioning to get ready for the season,” head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said.
It’s good to hear how far Posey is coming along after sustaining the horrific plate collision. He is very determined to be ready for Opening Day, but It’s still a mystery to see if Posey will return to his pre-injury form.
Side Notes
The AP reports that Giants minor league catcher Drew Stiner has been suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a banned amphetamine.
Do you think Posey will be the same player he was prior to his injury, and your thoughts on Stiner testing positive?
